I would with out a doubt pick the 1.8t engine for it's ease of modification. First off i would dump the pee-wee K03 for a MUCH larger Turbo, t3/t4 ball bearing or something like that. A large fromnt mount intercooler, custom engine software to run about 20 psi and a LSD. Sounds like a good start to me.

I'm with Lowlife on this one!! 1.8T is light, easily modded and Quick!

It all depends on which car the engine is going into. Since I drive a rabbit my ultimate engine for it would probably be a 2.2 litre Oettinger 16v with dual webbers! Relatively light and no electronics to muck up the simplicity of the Mk1. The only problem is that they are almost impossible to find and the ones that you do find cost like 5kUSD! 1.8t is also an AMAZING engine but seems a little too new for my car.

I'm with Mk1GTIt on this one ;) 2.xl with carbs ! A vr6 with the eip 3.1l kit is also nice I think.

if we go in N/A mode:
mk1: 2.0l 16V with stroker kit and PFI
mk2: VR6 3.0 (a la Trac)
mk3: VR6 3.0 or 2.0 20V
Mk4: same as mk3

Forced injection

mk1: G60 with all the right goodies
mk2: 1.8t with a super 70 etc...
mk3: 1.8t " " " "
mk4: 2.7T....hehehehehe

Steph.....in mk3 n/a you put 2.0 20v. What's that? Are you talking about a 1.8t?

Are people building 2 liter 1.8T's?

Yes Ive seen the Rabbit with the full TT dashboard. Its pretty nice, but I dont think it suits the Rabbit. I was actually contemplating using a 1.8 20v engine bored to a 2 litre with high comp pistons and carbs. It sounds really cool but ive read that it doesnt actually produce that much more hp than a 2.0 16v with the same mods. Raffi, from Eurosport in the states, had one in his yellow rabbit, which he raced. I wonder if he still uses it......?

I'd put the old 1.7l mechanical 8v into a new Passat for the ultimate road burner. Hmmm, maybe a turbo diesel in a Rabbit pick-up!

Heheeh

Actually, the TDI is a pretty good angine, espcially in a Mk1 chassis. With a chip upgrade you get something like 130hp and like 250ftlbs/tq! I'd put that in my rabbit if I could afford it! The TDI engine is one of VW's most expensive engines.
