I will finally be doing my oil change myself  and I will be putting 5W40 full Synthetic Motul oil, but which filter to use ???
my car is a 1.8T 01 jetta, if this makes a difference

thanks for all the suggestions

Buy only Oem from the dealer or Oem from RMR. both are around 11$

I would put dino oil and an oem filter before I put synthetic with a fram.

Hope this helps.

So if I get an OEM filter you are saying that Dino oil is the best oil to go with?
Why is Dino better than Motul?
Have they both been tested by you? and what results were there?

Thanks, just want to know why?
I have the same car as Ridin'lo, just want to know what the best oil would be for everyday driving with a few red lines here and there....

THANKS!

I'm pretty sure he is saying that Fram sucks ;)

Motul is one of the best oils for your car, it is 100% synthetic and is VW 502.00/505.00 approved.

Motul is a very good oil...
and stick with dealer or RMR filters...

If you're still under warranty, do you oil change at the dealer!

I work at a vw dealer and if you do your oil change by your self and you have problem with your engine, they will not do the repairs on the warranty.

A customer blew his 1.8T, he was doing his own oil changes and the dealer did not covered for the new 1.8T. The guy had to call his insurance.

Simply put.

If I were you, I would(and do) use Motul 5w40 8100 with OEM filters, and change it every 6000km.

ANd as for the warranty issue, I've never heard of such a thing. Unless you screw up and put the filter on crooked or don't put any oil back in. My dealer is well aware that I change my own oil and has never said a thing about it.

Dealer can't do a thing about that. When a 1.8T engine blows, VW Canada come take a look. If they see that something is not totaly right, they will void the warranty.

the guy at VW dealer, is talking about a small and big oil filter, the small is 12$ and the big 18$, which one do I go for ??

I find he makes good prices.

But you can find it in any VW part shop. Some people said Auto Electra had better price. :dunno:

At the VW dealer, usally you just tell them that you have a 1.8T and that you want a synthetic oil change, it costed me $60, I was never given the option of choosing the filter I wanted???
FYI, for a regular oil change (which obviously you won't do on a 1.8T) is $30.

I got it done last night
45$: 4.4L Mobil 1 full synthetic
15$: OEM Filter
0$: Labour
Not paying some lazy fu(k at Penzoil 80$: PRICELESS

Mann filters are OEM filters and can be bought at pretty much any auto parts store. I work at one in the south shore and we sell that exact filter for 11.20 + tax.
