a vr6 won't corner as well as a 1.8t (curb weight)

build yourself a 16v rabbit :D
 The 16V Rabbit!! But if I had to choose, I'd go with N/A too what Faouzi said is partly true coz you'll get the same torque steer if you have same power.. But the fact that power is right away makes a difference.. The 0-100 isn't waht you're looking for when you're lapping, what's important is the feel.. If I had a choice between 2 engines with same tq and hp one turbo one NA, I'd go with NA all the way!

I say go VR.. It's worth it but you'll have to spend some $$ on handling

the 16v rabbit owns trac's vr6 :p :p you know what i'm talking about!

I know that the torque steer is equal, but it's really annoying with the 1.8T because it happens a fraction of second later, it's harder to control than a VR6 (I know I had a Mk4 VR6 before and I now have a 1.8T). When the turbo spools up, the torque steer is nasty with the 1.8T.

N/A all the way for lapping, for 1/4 races, I'd go turbo without hesitation...

best choice like MTLVR6 said is a 16v. I'd build it with ITB to get maximum response from the engine and the lightest flywheel possible...

Good luck with your build-up

It not really the weight..but the engine placement on the VR6 that sucks. It is mounted infront of the axles which makes it fairly nose heavy..but you could still have lots of fun and build a great lapping car with a VR. A 20V NA would be nice to see!

Trac (or Rather Yves Bédard) built one.. His Race car is a 2.0L block with the 1.8T head... no T!

Kc and fred are on the ball, exactly what i was thinking, 20v NA for a lapping car all the way...

fab was telling me about that one, 197 to the wheels huh, crazy *tu*

my buddy is building something similar, now that it is NA (not for long hopefully), it still rips, HARD! and that's with a stock turbo manifold going to a tiny downpipe

i'm scared. :eek1:

between vr6 and 1.8t, their really isn't a big weight difference although what everyone on the board seems to think the vr6 is the elephant motor , I would go for a NA vr6 because I prefer the vr6 but both options are a good choice.

If you want a light motor and awesome for the track then it's 16v hands down. My scirocco 16v was awesome.
