All right, that's it, I definitely f*cking hate VW -Update on post 40-

So here's the deal, as many of you guys know (Duberman, VR666, JAVW, etc), I had a shit load of issues on my 97 B4 Passat TDI. Last summer, I spent quite a bit of $$ on it, but for things that you regularly need to change: water pipe, FK shocks, brakes (brembo), ball joints. Furthermore, I decided to add a chip (unitronic), plus I had to change 3 out of 4 windows winders (that shit cost me 700$). Bottom line, the bill was quite high, but the car was running well, so I decided it was worth it to invest that kind of money. But I was expecting the car to be trouble free for a while... I should've known better...

About a month ago, I had problems related to a broken engine mount, the engine mount itself literally broke. To make a short stoy, it also broke part of the starter casing (which was fixed by the garage where I spend most of my free time, thanks to them NADiesel in Valleyfield, Yvan is the best) for a bottom price of around 900$ (which includes work done by Jérémie and by NADiesel). I can't even remember all the work that was done, I would have to check my bills.

Not even a week after, while taking the exit to Vaudreuil, car dies once again. No big deal, I bring it to Vaudreuil VW since I'm right besides. The problem is just a switch (35$), but I then learn that the alternator is dead and that the wiring to the alternator itself needs to be done, result of the broken engine mount that f*cked everything up.

Over yet? I f*cking wish...

While coming back from Brossard Saturday night, I feel the engine ''turning'' wrong, alimentation or something, but difficult to say. However, I know I might have big problems again since I passed a whole gallon of prestone in the past week, but see no apparent leak whatsoever... you know what it is...

So I dump the car at NADiesel this morning and give them a shout this afternoon to see what's up. My verdict was good, head gasket probably needs to be f*cking done. HOWEVER, yes, once again, there might be worst. Apparently, I was rolling on 3 cylinders, which I didn't suspect at all, maybe because of the chip. So the compression needs to be checked. If it's good, I'll be up for ''only'' a head gasket job. If not, I better start trying to find a f*cking TDI engine because there is no way I will let the car go with all the money I spent on it. Plus, since I spent so much money recently on that f*cking piece of crap, part of my savings that I can ''touch'' without being penalized are simply gone.

I understand that I have a high milleage car (380000km), but both the previous owner and I took good car of it. It's just not f*cking normal to have so many problems. I really feel like puking & crying at the same time.

So now I am waiting to see if the compression is good, which I hope. If not, can anyone hook me up with a decent milleage TDI engine? And how much does a swap runs for?

Sorry for the long read, but this is the story of my life. And believe me, this is the last f*cking VW I'll ever buy. And I'm dead serious. and sorry for the long read...

Sorry to hear that Jo, especially the part about wasting your savings, that really really sux. B4 Passats are nightmares though. You and Oliver are the unluckiest people I know with VW's.

Anyways I wish you good luck for the TDI search if ever that's problem and I hope it isn't.

I feel your pain dude! I've been having all sorts of problems with the Shetta lately as well...

Join the club, but for me it's a little different. Troubles are troubles. But service I receive was terrible. I still like the car, but even VW CANADA gave me a hard time, so.... *td*

OMG! Poooor Jo! You were getting close to me car money wise, but now you've just became the king today! I'll drink one for you, hoping the compression test is + ... but @ 380 0000kms don't expect too much...

Can't wait to see you in you new CIvic.. lol

At least you got a Corrado Oli! :p

Yeah I guess Jo will finaly get that Civic SIR he's been talking about.

with 380km you HAVE to expect problems....

That I know, and I am conscient about it. But it has turned into a joke. evey single part is breaking up right now, it's just not normal. I wish I could drive the car for 2 weeks without one single issue...

I started looking around for other options, but I'd still want to get some money back out of that car. Parting it up is not a good idea since there are too little of these models...

Remember, I was talking about a last gen SiR? Now I would be more considering a 2000'ish model. But I'm also considering 73vette Mazda3 (see for sale section), very good deal. I'd rent a car for 3 years and then bring it back...

I must admit that the service I had @ Vaudreuil VW was so-so. David did a great job, but the rest of the folks there? Not impressed at all.

And at least, the service I get from the garage I go to is great. But everytime he sees me there, I can see in his face that he feels sorry for myself.

vw is not always reliable... but hey it's hella fun when it runs :D

i put a shitload of money into my mk4 for repairs, it was a bitch but i guess it was worth it cuz i had a blast with that car.... my brother's mk2 on the other hand was solid and didn't break at all..........

maybe you have a lemon :dunno:

I've seen many VW's running past 400 000kms and they had no problems.

Remember we're talking about a B4 Passat :p
