ok I have been following the changes over at napa for oil filters. Since this is perhaps the last place around to get a good quality filter for a fair price

This is the news, The Napa Silver brand filter has been replaced by the New "Nascar Spin flow filter"

I have one of these filters in my hands and the quality seems to be really good like any wix made filter. The outer casing is soild as a rock and there are pleanty of tiny holes for oil to make its way in.

Here is some back ground info
In traditional oil filters, unfiltered oil is forced under pressure through holes in the filter base plate directly to the top of the canister, creating turbulence in the filter. This constant turbulence concentrates the filtration of the dirty oil at one end of the filter media, resulting in only about 60 percent of the filter media doing the majority of the work.

The Spin-Flow technology, developed by Wix Filtration and used exclusively by NAPA for automotive applications, uses a ring of angled fins to force the dirty oil to flow in a circular motion around the filter media. This process evens out the flow of the dirty oil and virtually eliminates turbulence, thus using the entire filter media and maximizing the capacity and efficiency of the filter.

"With today's high-compression engines, it is more important than ever for the oil filter to be giving maximum effort," said Paul Bandoly, NAPA Filters Brand Manager. "The NASCAR Select by NAPA filter makes more efficient use of the whole filter, not just the top 60 percent."

In addition to Spin-Flow technology, the NASCAR Select filter also features a newly designed filter media, combining cellulose with synthetic fibers. This new media, called T-52, was also developed by Wix Filtration for NAPA automotive use. T-52 greatly increases the filter's "Single-Pass Efficiency," which is a measure of how much of the oil's contaminates are removed in a single trip through the filter. NASCAR Select has one of the highest Single-Pass Efficiency ratings in the industry.

Together, the Spin-Flow technology and T-52 media combine to make the most advanced oil filter available on the market today.

The Napa gold is still available as the "premium filter" and the ProChoice is the OEM value replacement. Which most filters are under 5$

So here is the line up as it stands

Napa Gold- Premium
Nascar Select "spin flow"- High end Midrange filter some claim to be as good as napa gold.
Napa ProSelect- Much better then Fram filters and most no name brands at an affordable price

More updates coming.

I only use AC Delco.. I would like to use Mobil 1 tho..

But I like the idea.. for a daily driver.. not a performance car.. wouldn't it slow down the flow? to have it forced into a restricted spiral?

Keep in mind I'm visual, so without pictures, I might have the wrong idea in my head of how the filter works..

Here this will help you

I'll have some pictures up soon

Ah! I see much better now.. ok, but like I said, beside better filtering(longer engine life) .. any performance numbers?

Performance Numbers?

Running good quality oil and a good quality filter and changing it at regular intervals= longer engine life.

This filter is getting good reviews on BITOG

OK so is it better than a AC Delco? I know I switched from Maximum (Mastercraft's) to AC Delco cuz Maximum wasn't worth the bang for the buck.. and people said it was the same shit.. as far as %

First of all the filters at CT minus the QS and Valvoline are all frams. Which means complete shit in terms of filtering and construction.

Also which AC Delcos are using the white ones or blue casing ones? Both are good filters way better then any fram but the blue housing delcos are much better quality.

People should inform themselves about oil filters and oil before talking. I love customers are work asking for fram filters.. its so funny because they actually think Frams are the best in the world

I buy white ones.. cuz I'm too cheap to buy my stuff at NAPA.. but soon I will (new project) so I will need top oil filter eh..

I know all the other brands are FRAM.. found out when I bought that Maximum one.. thats when I learned about Bob eh.. so sweet the page where he opens the filters up.. and say.. "here.. same as FRAM."

dude the napa proselect ones are the same price as the CT ones even if your car sucks etc, don't cheap out on oil filters

I wouldnt call the napa filters the "top" because Amsoil, M1, K&N are much better

know where I could get M1.. and my car sucks but I'm changing the engine for a twin cam.. no more sucky.. and got a new SOHC.. 140 000km.. so I'll take better care ;)

CT can actually order them

If not I know Chrysler dealers can

Anyways the I know the DOHC saturn filters are the same size as the neon

Funny I actually start a useful thread about on a topic on which I know alot about and I get a tottaly off topic post from boxsterboy

looks like i'm not the only one tired !

They are perhaps some of the best filters you can get but also cost 20$. You have to look it "is it worth it for my engine" If you are planning on going for extended drain intervals then its perfect or if you beat on your car constantly. Its hard to say I run Napa gold and now these Spin flow filters and they work out fine for me. I like the fact that the K&ns have that Nut on them

I'd say you can save a couple of bucks and just get a Napa gold.

Défois les filtres K&N viennent en spécial au Canadian Tire a 12.95$. Quand ca arrive j'en achete une coupe... :)
