I went ot the garage for a check up cause my rear right shock is doing alot of noise, and he told me that the shock is finished and the other 3 aren't fantastic either. now he priced me 1300$ for the 4, which i'm not willing to spend since it's an old car, Im just wondering, If I change just the one that's really bad with a new or used shock, will it affect the driving of the car since i'm not doing all at once or will it be fine? I'm not looking to get the most confortable ride seeing it's a 93, just to fix it so that it doesn't do any more damage

Believe me, you can get shocks for well under 1300$.

At that price you can change your whole suspension.. *banghead*

mx3 1993 4 cyl.

that price was at mr muffler he quoted me the 4 shocks + labour + some other piece of rubber for one of the shocks...

got mine changed for 700$ shocks only... Its pretty easy to do it yourself...

I was hoping I can do it myself, and change just 1 since I dont wanna spend money on this car. just wondering if it's ok to do it like that

Look, you can get Tokico gas shocks for 100$US each.. those aren't replacements but upgrades..

Labour, get yourself an Haynes manual, springs compressor tool off your dealer, and you are ready.

Or ask here for people who can do the job for far less than 50$ an hour ;)

You can get:

$57.95USD - KYB GR-2 Shocks

Plus shipping..

You might want to check shops around MTL .. If they have shocks in stock..

This is just to prove that you are getting screwed big time!

Thx ALOT for the info! i'll call around shops to see what I can get....I f I end up paying less the 500 for all I guess I'll go for all 4

i dont think hes looking to upgrade shocks, i would probably just go to canadian tire and get some monroe shocks with a lifetime warranty for about a hundred bucks each, its worth a call for the price.

with all other shocks being stock, i would prefer an aftermarket OEM replacement part over an aftermarket "upgrade" shock.

I said to upgrade 4 of them, not put a Tokico with 3 OEMs.. *banghead* ;)

Off course he could go to Canadian Tire also.. get that warranty for the few extra bucks.. could be worth it in the long run..

It's a cavalier afterall.. you NEED and CRAVE for life warranties :D

IT'S A MAZDA!!!!

and dont worry, I'm not an expert but I wouldn't put 1 upgrade out of 4 and leave the others as is. if I decide to change just 1 i will obviously go for a replacement.....I saw mr muffler has the monroe ones for 90$ i think

jesus christ, unless you know someone in that Mr.Muffler, why go there?

any big place will charge you an arm and a leg.. it would be like goign to the dealer..

look around, if it's not critical yet, look, call, visit, find yourself a good independant garage or shop.. that won't charge 1300$ for shocks replacement.

hehe dont worry all the work on my car is done by my friend who is a mechanic, if not done by myself....I just went there for the inspection cause it's free and i didn't wanna bother my friend cause he has a lot of work right now. I dont wanna put the mr muffler people down but when i got there yesterday the guy was kleening up an oil spill....he did an oil change and forget to replace the bolt under the car that makes the oil come down....result: the client left without knowing this....

well you dont replace the drain bolt, you check the plastic gasket on it to make sure it's not cracked(wich will leak when the car is not started) it's like 5$ to replace..

not replace but put it back. when you drain the oil, u usually put that bolt back and then put new oil in, well he didn't.....
