Difference between B16A2 and D16Y7

WOuld it be possible to tell the difference between the Civic SI engine and the DX engine just by looking at them?

If i would be looking at it while it was still in the engine bay? another than the fact one would say V-TEC, how could I tell the difference? by the cams?

i think you got it wrong! si if you're talking about a si from canada is a simple cam too d16y7 and dx is a simpe cam d15 or d16z something ... but dude there's just too many codes ford dx's i just don't know em all :p but the way for sure to tell is go under the passenger side floor and check the ecu if it's p28 it's an si if not it's a dx.... also a si has the spark plugs directed at the front of the vehicle as the dx has the spark plus directed at the back of the vehicle. i hope that helps!

p.s. the si here is known as the lx in the us so if you search for si on the net it will surely bring the si from the us wich is our sir here :bigup:

Si(US)=SiR(CAN)
EX(US)=SI(CAN)

d16y7=127hp
b16a2=160hp

i never knew 160-127=60 or 70...
 
and now im confused. thing is I got this car (99 civic coupe si) im thinking about buying, but the guy said he changed the engine like 2 years ago cuz he blew it. but i was worried that it might have been an DX engine he put in that. It doesnt say V-TEC on the engine, but I got the serial number and Im gonna go ask a Honda Dealer if its an SI engine
 
They don't track engine serial numbers.

D16Y7 is a cx/dx motor
D16Y8 is a canadian SI motor or an american EX motor.

B16A2 is the canadian 99-00 SIR as well as the american 99-00 SI

There is a big difference between the two engines.

when i say to the wheels i mean to the wheels, you should brush up on your reading skills, and learn a little about wording and horsepower cuz if you think that a d16y7 block gives you 127 HP u must be on crack
