- big rims = slower car, more expensive tires, unless you need them because you have brakes to fill the 18, aftermarket wheels are always available

Do you really need it?

no dual climatronic

See response above

Good point.

you are asking the wrong people

What Volkswagen on Canada needs to do is to focus on what they used to be... making high quality, reliable econoboxes. Instead of worry about gimics, they should bring the Polo to compete with the likes of the Echo/Yaris.

bring back the good stuff and stop making heavy, bloated cars. I mean sure safety is important but the newer cars are too heavy for what they are. look at a mk2 golf and a mk4 golf. actually the mk4 golf is exactly twice the weight of a rabbit.

Indeed the polo woud be a smart moove.

( does the new gti come with a 6 speed ?? )

About the rims i admit, gay, but then again thats why bbs sells aftermarket:bigup: .

Indeed, the new oens are ****ing pigs.
About the climatron and all that crap,im happy the new gti wont have it,its not an old mans car,its a pocket rocket of love, not a ****ing benz.

If you want that stuff, get a passat *tu* .I think its cool that vw is not putting big rims, keeping it oldschool :D

VWAG, pays people so they can do a market research before launching(or delaying a launch) of a new product. Sucks to say, but the hardcore dubber (and the person who will cough up the extra dough) is slim to rare. Yes there are some VW freaks on this board and others across canada, but it does not justify 100 000 dollars worth or parts(reffering to the R32), special options and training knowledge to satissfy the thirst of some people.

Sucks to say, but that is how it is. VW tried it with the Phaeton, and I think that move cost them alot. That + no one wants to buy a 100 000 VW...I love Vdub but after 50 000 $ I stop looking at VW and I score with Audi or a similar product that gives me less head aches.

My 2 cents.

Are you sure there won't be a GTI with a GLX type trim level? If it won't have it then obviously VW is trying to steer luxury buyers towards a Jetta or Passat with premium trim levels instead. Not a bad idea considering what the GTI was meant to be in the first place, a hot hatch not a hot luxury hatch. BTW, I have a MK4 GTI GLX and have to admit that the wood trim, climatronic and other goodies are nice but are not critical for me if I was choosing a new GTI. If I wanted those goodies I would get a loaded 2.0T Jetta instead. The bottom line is what is the GTI is competing against? If its competitors have better equipment at a better price then GTI sales will suffer.

If you are frustrated with VW's option packages you should consider a BMW.

Exactly, I doubt there is one person on this board, who would not want to have an R32, but how many of you are going to dump 35k+ at the dealership for one?

VW thinks of Canada... we got the B3 Passat 16v for 2 extra years, we also had the CL MK3 Golf/Jetta. We also got the poor man's MK4 GLI.

IMO VW lost its way when they showed up in North America with the MK3 2.o 8v GTI. Although you also have to look at it from a general car point of view. Laws are pushing harder and harder for safer (aka heavier) and less polluting vehicles (aka more electronics). The FSi to me appears to be a move in the right direction for VW. Instead of adding more cats and O2 sensors, they redisgned their injection system for a more efficient, cleaner engine.

All I ask from VW is their cars go back under 1000kg, like the good ol' days.

Well said. I know for a fact that Volvo for ex: Had to put 4 catalyc converters on the XC90 V8 so it can fall in a ULEV 2 level.(only one so far) I have no say on the injection system cause I am nor a Technician or an mechanical engineer. However, cleaner less polluting cars are already a bonus. That + ppl who still want a V8 have the perfect fit.

Weight wise.. I so wish VW could still make MK2's. Add a VR6 and u would be at arround 1100-1200 KG. If only. That is why I love my MK2
