how come 2000-2001 Jetta's go for so much cheaper than golfs.
And i'm talking a lot cheaper... It's not hard finding a 2000 jetta VR6 for 8-9k with only 100 000km

Were jettas ONLY made in mexico, as opposed to some golfs from germany.
more problems maybe?

etc. ?

That's a VERY good question.. Maybe because the history on golfs gave them a very good fuel economy reputation (we all know that same engine = same gas/mileage or just about but ppl might think they're cheaper on gas).

The other thing to consider (And I might be WAYY off) is that there are more Jettas than Golfs...

3rd; On a golf, to get the VR, you need the GTI... so, if you're comapring the only VRs, Jettas WILL be cheaper..

I would like to know if there's any other explanation

You are correct. Jettas outsell Golfs in North America therefore there are more used Jettas available on the market. Also, young buyers who are looking for a good used VW may favour the Golf, therefore more demand for used Golfs yet there are less of them. This happens with other VW models as well. Some used VWs that are very popular and pricey are anything with a diesel, as well as Passat or Jetta wagons. BTW, used New Beetles tend to be cheaper than Golfs.

Well a jetta is 7 inches longer because of the trunk, and around 60 pounds heavier. so other than aerodynamics (which I think might favour the jetta, smoother drop of air) they should be getting around the same mileage, yet there's still quite a difference? Is that explainable?

a 2 door golf is out of my options right now, looks nice and all, but 2 door golfs are among the top 10 stolen cars in Canada, and I would just worry a bit too much.

To get back to a question, are Jettas ONLY/mostly made in Mexico, unlike the diversity of german/mexicant golfs?

Wrong! They are no longer in the top 10 list! Someone should let my insurance company know!!!!!! *frustrate

okay a lil update,

I ran through about 20 Jetta VINs from ebay and ALL are made in mexico. I am starting to think Jettas are cheaper because the quality of assembly of ALL of them is worse.

As for Golfs, a good 3rd to half are made in germany, in various assembly plants.

So even if a jetta is much cheaper, I want a german car, not a mexican bastard.

I think all MK4 Golf's were made in Mexico. I know there are some earyl GTI's that were from Germany. You really shouldn't care too much about where it is made. Like the MK2 myth that German built Jetta's have less problems... yeah right. If you believe that, you can stop buy and fix that many problems on my German made MK2.

Where can you find this???

Actually, the cheapest 2000 JETTA VR6 on Hebdo is 10,495$ and has 110,000km, followed by another one at 11,495 and has 129,000km

i saw this august lots and lots of 12V VR's for 8-9k$ also. but those are the models without leather seats. if your gonna buy a VR6 Jetta, take it with leather, or upgrade after.

Re the Mexico vs German thing, all of the MK4s flaws are related to components that have nothing to do with assembly in Mexico, ie. coilpacks, window regs, etc. The resale value of Jettas has nothing to do with where they were built because most potential buyers of used cars would not know anyway.

Personaly, I would buy a used Mk4 Jetta over a Golf because they are more likely better equipped and better choice of engines. The 1.8T was only offered during 2 years in the Golf. Most Golfs out there are 2.slows (except for GTI of course).

Could it be that the new generation jetta is out while the new generation golf is not. :dunno:

Ya, I guess no one thought of that one but it makes perfect sense...

The other that mentionned that potential buyers wouldn't know about the 2 different factories is right.. A lot of dubbers don't even know, imagine the ones who aren't VW freaks like us!

And 3rd point, you all forgot Brasil.. My GTI was made there..

so whats the deal with mexican made cars?
my mk3 is mexican made, and so many electronic bugs, is it related to its production origin?

In other words, mexican cars have no flaws over german made? I keep hearing terror stories about the evil mexican vw's, am I just too worry?

Boxterboy: where you advertised your golf ... lespac.com

The biggest flaw btw german vs mex.

IS the winter lining. In germany there way way more wather protected ( well they were in the old days )

compaired to dry ol mexico.
