Hey guys,

So after ive had some bad luck with my STi and G35, ive been considering getting a wrangler or something similar. It would probably be a model between 2004 and 2006. I would prefer an older model because the reason im going this route would be to save money on insurance (compared to the last two of course). I am going to call some insurance companies on monday but i thought i would ask you guys before i get an answer from them.

Here is some info about me:

- Im 28
- Ive had no speeding tickets
- Ive had two big claims in 5 months (theft, STI) (Total loss, G35) :(:(:(

I know you guys dont work in insurance so im not expecting anything specific, maybe u can tell me what you pay in insurance, or if the wrangler is generally an expensive car to insure. I was under the impression it was pretty reasonable, but someone told me it was actually expensive to insure.

Thanks for the help guys, i really appreciate it, please do not write some negative comments about my experience. I feel very bad and am trying to move on.

Joe

I don't think you would save much on insurance on a TJ, they also cost a lot to insure.

To give you an idea, I pay 850 for my Jetta (02) (turbo, chip, mods declared) and 750 for the Mazda3 (05).

I had quotes for :
2007 Wrangler unlimited rubicon : 1550$/year.
2006 TJ Rubicon : 1700$/year.

Finally kept the Jetta and bought a YJ 1994, cost 191$/year to insure 1 way :)
And it hurts less when I scrape it against tree's in the trails ehe..

And BTW, I am 24, 1 speeding ticket, no major claims (1 windshield), no theft claim.
Have been insured as 1st driver 2 way since I was 18.

Cool thanks for the info sector. i called a couple of companies and it does cost a couple of hundred dollars less than my g35. But i realized that i might have to go older. I dont actually mind, a 2002 tj was quoted at 1600 which is much less than the 3100 quoted on my g35.

I think the major problem is that i live downtown. At least the good news is that if i pay less on the car then i could probably afford to pay more on insurance, hopefully not a ton more. but the idea behind getting a wrangler is to save on car payments.

when u do get a quote though just sya u have the hardtop donw't say you have the soft top because that goes up alot. i have a 93 YJ and it was a couple hundred differenec having just hardtop or saying i had the soft top... any little things you can say to make it sound wrse than it is would help but it all depends if you have to make a lain on a n accident or something and theres no way you can get he hardtop on b4 they see it then ud probably be screwed and they wounlt pay.. all depends thoguh good luck and jeeps are awsome to own won't compare performance wise to a g35 or an sti.. but throw some big tires lift on there.. winter iwl be great especialy the huge snows lol

yeah thats exactly why im considering one.

to be honest im more of a sports car person myself (although ive owned a YJ before so i know what it feels like). But sports will cost way more to insure and i think its a better idea to get a hassle free car in terms of driving downtown with the snow and everything. The wrangler is exactly that, and it still retains a very unique look which is very important to me.
