ol'skool Dubs

Ok guys, finally after a year of having no job, i'm finally employed again. (damn schooling). Anyways, heres a few things I want to ask:

I have a 2002 Golf 2.0L 8v, I want to swap it out for either a 1.8T or VR6 but!..

VR6 - Not cheap on gas, heavy, expensive to fix/mod and very bad gas mileage since I do A LOT of highway.

1.8T - Forced induction, lighter, a bit more fuel efficient, not as expensive to mod and fix like the vr. (well more or less)

I'm not looking to mod the motor now, maybe in the future. So since I do a lot of highway, which engine should I get? Which is more reliable?

and

Should I wait for the engine swap and buy a 20th ann kit and wheels first? Or go straight for the swap then buy the kit and wheels later?

i drive a VR6 and i find it pretty reasonable on the highway however it's nothing short of a bitch when you're doing city driving. In terms of mods, the 1.8t is a lot more versatile when it comes to upgrading the turbo you already have and chipping it. Also more cost friendly to mod. With the VR6 you get some more punch while it's stock and it sounds great too. Tough choice really.

Whether you do the swap or aesthetics first, well that's really up to you. Everyone has their own taste. Are you a performance junky? Do you want people's heads to turn when you drive by? It's a tough call as well but i guess the right answer will come to you after some thought...

trade your car for a TDI and chip it with big injectors = plenty fast
tdi is perfect highway beast! cruise non stop for 6+ hrs at 120km+ ;)
you'll be smilling while you drive by the gas stations

I'm no performance junky. Just having that kick is good enough for me. I'm more of "all show" type of guy. I want my car to look like sex, but have a nice motor to back it up (stock for all I care) as long as it's no 2.slow. Ya, it's nice to go fast once in a while, but I need to save on gas to. The VR6 has the best sound ever, which is the only reason why I want it. The 1.8T comes with a turbo from the factory, so it saves me money on buying one.

I'm really leaning on the 1.8t but after seeing some vids of vr's ripping 1.8t's, it's kinda discouraging lol. Again, not that I care about performance, but it's nice to have a quick car :D

yeah i know what you mean. Well maybe go for a 1.8t and i think that after just chipping it you can expect to rape Vr6's. As for your aesthetics question: since you like looks do that stuff first cause you'll pay it off quicker and have an awesome dub in no time. Hopefully.
