Hi, today was rainy and this happened for the first time. When the car was about to hit VTEC point in 3rd, the check engine light goes on and the VTEC just never engaged. This problem does not happend in 1st or 2nd gear, just the 3-4-5... Someone know what's wrong. The engine is a USDM b18C1 with p72 ECU in a 97 Coupe. Also, can you tell me where the disgnistic port is located originally.

Thanks
Bo

look under the passenger side kick panel, where the ECU is. you should find a blue plug (usually in a green rubber boot). Connect the two holes using a wire or paperclip. Turn the key to on and count how many times the CEL comes on. Long flashes = 1st digit in the code, short flashes = 2nd digit.

first thing you got to do is to check your oil level if it's ok check the ecu code it should be 21 vtec solenoide or 22 vtec pressure switch !!! The most commun is 22 !!! remove the vtec solenoide assembly from the head and check if the 2 filters clean !!! Those the first step to do to find the problem !!!

In dont think it's wiring cause you would get a code right when you start your engine unless it's a weak connection !!!

Thanks for the info but I found out the problem... the map sensor was not well connected, triggering a code 3 error.

Thanks
