lately ive been thinking about getting a 94-95 integra as my first car. I was offered a 95 integra rs for 5000$, problem is it has over 200 000km's.

heres my question, if i get it, im planning to swap in a brand new engine. The question is do i stick with a brand new b18b and use whatever extra money i have left over to mod it, or should i just look into a b18c1 or should i just wait until i find a older teg gsr with low km's.

thx

I would check out the car first and see the condition its in. If its in good condition (especially the body) then I would get it and swap in a B18c1 since the original engine is already a B18b.

Besides that I would wait to get a lower mileage car but then youd have to go with a G2 for the same price.

i know the engine inside is a b18b.. but its old,
the b18b's dont go for as much as the b18c1's, so i can put in a brand new b18b and use the extra money i saved from not getting the gsr for mods...
how fast can i make a b18b for 2000$ around?

Well I would get it. Those Integra engines are really strong and reliable so the milage would not worry me. You could still get 200 000km more out of it you know.

Now for the swap, you can either go B18B or go with a GSR swap later but I would stick with the B18B and just rebuild the block you have now with high compression pistons, alot of head work and some Crower cams and valve springs. That will be your cheapest solution and you will be much faster then a stock GSR swap in your car trust me and you will have a new engine with new pistons, rings, bearings, water pump etc... plus you will know that your engine is not stolen for sure. If you don't want the Teg, give me the number of the guy, I'll buy it off of him for sure. Make sure the body is rust free though, if it isn't stay away from the car, it will always come back to haunt you.

I know they can last longer then 200k.
but i dont wanna mod a engine that already has 200k on it.
the car will be inspected if i decided to buy.

just think of it this way
your getting an integra for 5k, whcih in my book for a 95 is cheap
i bought mine at 214 000km and get a little race in here and there and i have NO problems whats so ever
so instead of paying something like 10k for a 96 97 with lower milage, you have 5k that you can put on mods
Now with that 5k what i would do is either a gsr swap, OR this would be for what i would do go ls/vtec i say for a round 5 -7k you can get a job well done with every internal component changed, pistons, rods, cams, vavles, springs, bearings gaskets ETC ETC and then you have a brand new engine that will beat any type-r and prelude on the maket (stock)
and definitly be faster than a GSR
so i see it as for 2 or 3 k more you get alot more power than a GSR in my book, worth it....

with 2000$ he will not get as fast as a gsr!
need a good header DC sport 4-2-1 aprox 625$cramic
good intake Iceman 250$ or AEM abou250$
A good Cat back Exhaust Dc sports twin loop or Greddy SP 900$

These are aprox prices and as you can see on just the Intake header exahst your looking at 2000$ and you wont be in gsr level with thoes mods! Your gonna need some cam gears and new cams like the crower 403's to get thoes times as well you should upgrade your suspension! Its alot of $$ but realy why you changing the motor? I say do a leak down and compression test and if its all ok just keep that motor and buy your basic bolt ons with a carsound resonated high flow cat (around 400$ candn but way worth it) and leave that engine in and drive with it till next summer where you will have more $$ Dont forget to include insurance in your total that crap adds up fast in extra 1000-1500$ out of your spending pocket.

I was looking into the ls vtec conversions. Where would you go to get something like this done? and i heard it is unreliable, is this true?

it is if you cut corners
see it like this the cheaper the price you get this doen the less reliable it will be.....to a certain extent
like i said consider a round 6-7k for a sick ls/vtec job that will last you long if you do it right, i think you should do it one and do it right
dotn go for some bargain deals and shit
get it done with some nicley forged pistons rods get the head and base redone completly tyhat way your sure that its fail proof
persoannaly i have a mecanic guy that would prolly do it for me
but you can always look around at shops here on MR.com there are some pretty good mecanics shop that could do a nice job
and power wise for the ls/vtec i think is just sick compared to the price of type-r's and all that
its your monney so you do what you want but my suggestion is think it over and dont go putting all your $$ on the first idea that comes to mind.....patients is a vertu...

but since i got another my plans are back in full force and i dont really car ofr looks no more
i want power thats why im keeping my cash in order to make my car fast thats why i want ls/vtec
alot more worth it in my books compared to type-r or what ever

well iot depnds i like htis car for a few reasons
its not the fastest on out there but it has alot of potential...i love the look of an integra
the finish compared ot some cars is just too nice
reliability is one of the factors that influenced me the most when i was deciding on what ot go for, in all i think its a GREAT car and there for thats why im on my second one and plannin gon keeping it for a while, but performance wise, it is decent but if i wanted more and staying stock i would of went for a type-r or GSR
but the you have to think insurance too
