So here it goes.
Last year,in Barrie Ontario, I've been pulled over for the following offence:
Disobey sign RE: Speed 50KMH
What happened is the police officer saw a red vehicle (Which he thinks is mine) fly-by on a road perpendicular to the road he was on. He was busy doing something else obviously and he was outside his vehicle giving a ticket to drunk girl. It was 21h36 at night, so everything was pretty dark.
Apparantly, he estimated the vehicle speed to be above the 50KMH limit (He specified 60 to 90 kmh according to the disclosure).
About 4 minutes later, the police officer stopped me coming from another direction onto his street. He was still oustide his car and used his flashlight to signal me to stop, so I did. My vehicle is RHD so he went and started "yelling" at my passenger to turn off the car swearing etc. He then realized I was on the other side so he came around, really angry.
He told me he saw me "speeding" 4 minutes earlier on that one road, I told him he must be mistaken because it was not me, to what he replied, "well then, I'll see you in court".
My questions are :::
1. Does giving such a ticket make sense in that situation? Is it valid?
2. Can a police officer give a ticket to a driver WITHOUT even knowing it was the same car or even THE SAME DRIVER.... (considering he pulled me over 5 minutes after seeing the "speeding" car)
I'd like to add that I'm strongly against any kind of streetracing, speeding on the roads. I've been driving for 5 years, never had a ticket except for this one. I still have my 15 points.
I understand the police officer's frustration considering lots of ti counes with their exhaust systems drive like retards.
I'll be attending court on June 4th.
