First things first I drive a JDM mr2 turbo.

Today I was parking my car downtown for work when a cop decided he needed to pull someone over for something. Luckily for me, he chose me!

Basically i was cited for non conform taillights (absence of rear red sidemarkers and reflectors) and non conform exhaust ( I have a 3" SS Berk Technology unit).

This is what my taillights look like:

So today I painted my rear reflectors red, I'm looking for a way to retrofit some rear markers into the corner reflectors like the usdm and cdm mr2's and I'm installing back my stock downpipe and primary catalytic converter (3" downpipe eliminates the cat *td*). My exhaust will still be non conform but at least my cat will be there to avoid any bigger fines until I can get my stock exhaust back on.

The worst part of it is that I didn't receive any warnings for anything. The cop just slapped me with 3 tickets and said you have 24 hours to fix everything until we can ticket you again (as if i can paint reflectors, add sidemarkers and put back my original exhaust before tomorrow morning).

It seems like the JDM importers are, as if we didn't know, cutting corners with modifying their cars to the quebec standards and are all paying off someone to sign and stamp the "inspection" papers.

If you have or are buying a JDM car, make sure you make these modifications to your taillights because 500$ of fines for reflectors and lightbulbs is not pretty. I should have spent more time here informing myself and making the modifications before getting ticketed.

apparently it's not the jdm importer's, saaq inpection center's, government's, or police's fault... so i guess it's ours

our problem... our fault... that sounds just dandy doesn't it?

I know, its pretty ridiculous that an importer can get through the whole process of importing a car into Canada and selling it to someone without any conformity mods done.

the importer is probably responsable in some way...but you are going to need a lawyer to do something about it...so it's not worthed money wise

voila

Lesson of the day: stopping people for side markers REAALLLY helps to make our roads safer.

Way to go, tax collectors, now go and stop the real crimes.
