Is a cop allowed to hide on the side of the road near a construction site with absolutly no lights on, parking lights, to catch people with his laser? I always heard after sunset they must have thier parking lights on:dunno:

cops can do whatever they want to catch you speeding.

the other night I was going back home going west on the 40 crossing the ils aux tourtes bridge, I was honestly cruising at about 130kmh then some undercover cop? in a black saturn.. maybe the LS1 I don't know saturn models all that well, anyways he put on a siren and waved his hand to slow down... taking no chances I dropped down to 110.

he was wearing a brown uniform though, I think he also had ontario plates.. I forget. anyways It was pretty damn funny to see him tell me to slow down, I totally didn't expect it, wasn't very worried, but I guess the thought came into mind "man if that was SQ or QC police I'd be ****ed so hard"

they need to change all the speed limits:

100 to 130

70 to 100

50 to 70

40 stays 40

30 goes to 25.

I heard some shit about they want to change all 50 kmh to 40? imagine the traffic in the west island ? jesus christ they're stupid.

st.jeans/sources/brunswick/labross/st.charles/hymus etc.. whatever most places are busy as all hell should be upped to 70.

we live in a real nanny state

and then what, 50 to 70 -> people will drive 80 where it was 50 zone. thats a a recipe for an accident

People drive 80 in 50 zones anyways.

Have you ever driven on Sources between the 40 and 20? People drive like 100 there and it's a 50 zone.

The ONLY reason that they want to reduce the speed limit or not increase the speed limit is so they can give out big tickets and make money, it has NOTHING to do with safety.

If a 50 zone is increased to a 70 zone, people won't suddenyl drive much, much faster. People already drive at a speed they are comfortable at, people's comfort zone won't change because the sign changes.

If they increase the speed limit, people will pay more attention to driving and less to their speedometer and they will be safer.

wow, cet homme est un génie et possède la science infuse *blah*

everybody drives at least 65+ in a 50 zone... unless theyre old, are afraid to press the gaz pedal, or have just enough points to keep their licenses and of course lets not forget just simply bad drivers (aka driving at 40km/h in the left lane in a 70 zone.)

70 zone everyone drives 90+. 100 zone everyone drive at least 115+.

And you wouldnt be a safety hazard if you were. I mean 30km/h zone are the dumbest things ever created. I have yet to see someone driving at those speeds. Even old ppl tailgate me when I drive at 35km/h in those zones.

The only reason why you tend to see people driving around the speed limits nowadays, is cause of cops. Prices of tickets have double and so have the demerit points. People dont want to take chances anymore even though they know everyone can easily drive 20km/h more than the speed limits.

and for others ? youngster like you .. ?

I always drive about 70-80 in a 50 zone and 100 in a 70 zone and 120 in a 100 zone. It wouldn't change if they raised the limit, I would just be happier, but I would keep going the same speeds because I drive at a speed I am comfortable at for cruising.

Of course people will go faster once in a while when they want to get a speed fix. It happens that I'll go 160 on the highway or 120 in a 70 zone for a few seconds just for fun, but it's rare and the speeds would be the same if the speed limits changed.

Personally, my speeds are completly disconnected from the speed limits because speed limits are ridiculously low and are only set at those numbers to be able to give out tickets because the posted speeds are un-naturally slow so they know everyone will go over the limits.

no, they are sooo NOT allowed to do this they have a button in the car that says "BLACK OUT" which turns off any light. [/sarcasm]

If you think people will stop by increasing tickets they are pretty stupid... What new driver will actually not try and runaway with only 4 points any ticket you get at this point will be a loss of license.

Guys lets take a minute and think about this...

In the good old days, before politicians got involved, highway speed limits were determined by observation. When a new road was built, no speed limits were posted. Instead, speed mesuring devices were installed, and after a month or so, the speed limit would be set on the speed of the 85th percentile. In other words, drivers went at the speed they felt was appropriate and excepting the top 15% the speed limit was set based on the driver's preference.

Now think back to the 70's. Cars had louse steering, barge-like handling and brakes better suited for a lawn tractor. If you needed to brake suddenly the car would slew sideways out of control thanks to frum brakes which couldn't exert equal force at each wheel. No ABS of course so that a panic stop was actually the percursor of an accident.

So, we had craptitics performance, and to make matter worse, little to no though giver to occupants protection. You crashed at 30MPH and odds were you died. Compare that to modern cars which protects us from a 35MPH crash into a solid concrete wall!

So whats the point? Back in the 70's we had highway speed limits of 70 and 75MPH. With modern cars, tires, brakes and occupant protection systems the speed limit is 62 MPH / 100km/h. No wonder we all have a tendency to exceed these artificially low limits - which are now being rigdly enforce. Safety?

I dont think so.

Very well said. +rep.

I've been driving legally for 9 years now and have lived in Montreal for 6 of those years. In the 6 years I have had to pay near $9,000 in tickets. Whether they were Speeding or parking. The city of Montreal made $40 Million ++ in 2006. Last year they hired 140 new Police Officers and they want to make over $60 + million in fines and traffic violations and such.

Its SUCKING Money out of decent tax paying peoples pockets. I got back from Panama and got stopped for going 150 in a 100 zone. $4 to the Police officer and I was away in minutes. No points taken off or nothing. Not that Canada should be corrupt so that we pay off our cops, but the Cops have a Quota. The Quota is the Corruption. Our Government Milks us and theyre the mafia which decides these speed limits.

Its not enough that a single guy pays %30+ of his pay for taxes and %15 on everything we buy, Plus Property tax and "WELCOME TAX" on a house you buy, I mean What the ShiT is WELCOME TAX? School Tax I understand. But SHOW US WHERE ALL THIS MONEY GOES, Sure into education, it is pretty cheap compared to the rest of North America.

Our roads have LESS THAN THIRS WORLD ROAD QUALITY. We have the Worse Roads in North America. Why? Greedy Mother Fu(Zing Politicians who end up taking Millions to NOT do what they are supposed to do.

Building Roads that last less than three years. Bridges that collapse and kill us. And you are questioning the speed limits? There is not a whole lot we can do. unfortunately Politics makes the honest man into a crook, thats the truth.
