I have a question... something that has been pissing me off a little.

Why is it, that a Civic with an aftermarket muffler will get a ticket and a Corvette with a Stock muffler that sounds 2 times as loud gets away with it?

And why can Stock Lexus cars come with tinted tail lights, but the second you put the same ones in a civic the cops are busting balls?

I'm sorry, but a 2008 Z06 is very quiet unless he's flooring it. Get your facts straight

A stock Harley is not noisy. People modify the exhausts to make them noisy... even the dealers modify them before they are sold.

to be honest i hate the sound of an aftermarket on a civic i own one and will never put a "pipe" on it but there are alot of mustangs where i live and they modify there exhaust and rip the shit out on the streets i have never seen a mustang pulled for an exhaust why?

Because compared to a civic, they are fast enough to get away! :yikes:

I have seen many mustangs get pulled for that... They are just men and don't complain... They assume the consquences of there actions.
Not like most 16year old civic owners that by a 300 civic at put a 50$ cherry bomb to make there car "cool"!

What's so complicated... STAY STOCK!
Rims, lowered suspension, xdrilled brakes, nice window tint on the rear windows, and a clean and waxed body is 1 000 000 X more sexy then a Muffler or "alteza" style lights.

Even HID are verry low on the "sexy" scale!

Just look at Trish's car! She has rims and springs and her yaris is sexy... Imagine that... a sexy yaris!

I have pull over noisy mustangs many times and they where modified, someones where straight pipe.........these mustangs gets ticket........please stop saying that what you don't see means that the police don't do it......thanks!

HID's are FAR more effective than any halogen bulbs!! just do it proporly and get a retrofit! Forget about being "sexy", I just want to see something at night! lol.

BTW, everything is legal when done properly! All the mods you listed can be considered illegal when done wrong... Overstreatched tires on large rims, lowered suspension to the point that the tires toutch the fender, artisanaly drilled rotors, windows too dark.

One more thing about rotors, if you even care one bit about performance, you should NEVER get a drilled rotor on a regular car. It just weakens the rotor, lower te heat absorption capability, prematurely wears pads, accumulate dust in holes and often breaks between holes. If you want a good looking disk, get a sloted rotor.

We have survived about ermmmm 100years without HID on cars... and i think people used to see also. I admin, the light is great with HID, but do you seriously need that much light? Maybe you do, but i don't feel it.

Seriously? You think a few holes will prematurly wear pads less then the slicing effect of slots? (I had both btw)

Also, about the heat absorption.. This is an urban myth because all the metal you remove is metal you can't heat but it's also metal you don't need to cool! Plus it gives a great passage way for the overheated gas to escape when you brake and the cool air to circulate though when you are driving. And if you look at the shavings after the slots are done on disks, you will notice lots more metal is gone then with drilled rotors.

Also, notice how every street car that comes with "performance" disk in the stock fashion ie: Mercedes, Porsche... all have drilled disks!

Anyhow... To the main point! Don't change your muffler or your lights... It's anoying, ugly and will get you tickets.

I read a lot on the subject and saw a lot of misconceptions and myths about this. Sure some porsches and Mercedes have drilled rotors, but what makes you think it's for performance only? Have you taken a look a racing cars lately? You cant really have more perfomance oriented cars then that... See a lot of NASCARS, F1, Touring cars with drilled rotors?

Still dont believe me? Here's a word from major brake companies. Half of what you just said isn't true according to them... But what do they know, they only make the brakes you are using...

Dosen't mean you rotors will explode and kill people, it just means you've made an esthetic modification, not a perfomance one...

And as for HID's, yes I could drive with my regular halogen headlights before, but I didn't see well. What made me go for retrofit was when I hit a cat on the side of a dark road because I didn't see it. Not because I wasn't looking, but because my OEM lighting sucked. My car dates back from 91 and headlight technology has evolved quite a bit since. Do I NEED all that light? no, but it is a lot safer to drive at night now.

i never said that you dont do it i dont want to turn this into an argument but like i said I havent seen any.

Yes! I will believe everyting every one writes on the net!

Maybe you should get the Air intake twister also... it must be true!

Must realy be useless....

I think this car uses 1970's brake pads and technologie because it's not realy fast... Who needs to slow down a car going 400kph??? right?

Maybe you should get that side vent from the mercedes and a second caliper on the front rotors! Its on a fast car, so it MUST mean that it will make your car faster, lol... If your only argument to get a cross drilled rotor on your is that some high end cars have them, then you my friend should do some researches. You don't even know why those manufacturers use them, but because they do, you want it on your car... lol... Is it for looks, weight saving, heat discipation, or simply because they use ceramis ou carbon brakes? Who knows... But if you search a bit and you will realise cross drilled rotors are FAR from beeing popular in racing events because of all the reasons listed in the link I posted above. Do what you want, its your car, but I garantee you that those disks dont make any diffrence in braking. If you want performance, get pads ;)

This still doesnt answer my question... what is the "LAW"
some one said it, Just because its aftermarket doesnt make it Illegal? so what does make it illegal? the decible level, the deepth? for light tints, is it the luminance of the light?

xdrilled brakes = Garbage at the track and performance is shitty. slotted FTW. I had Brand new cross drilled Brembos on my Silvia and they Cracked the first week and I wasn't pushing and being a door knob with them.

Police can hassle anyone they want, even a Bone Stock Civic or one with altezzas or a stock 08 BMW M3. Cops are just more attracted to cars that look really ugly and drivers who do stupid shit.

There are a milion topics about this but to make it short,:
police hear you comming, see that you have a loud (to them) modified car and pull you over. Technically, since they think you modified a part to make your car louder, they accuse you on the spot of the article 94, which is just that, modding the exhaust to make it louder than stock. Since they cant prove that in any way, they write you a ticket for the article 91, which states that if you repair a part of the exhaust, it has to maintain the original caracteristics of the manufacturer. Throughout interpretation, police states that you cant change your stock muffler which has baffles for a freeflow. That's why they stick anything in it just to see if they can reach beyond the muffler.

There are way to contest this but seriously, do some research, it's been explained like... A LOT!!! lol

The law is: You cannot replace your exhaust of any part of the exhaust system by anything aftermarket. A lot still run with aftermarket exhaust/header/cat without getting caught. Some cops will not pull you over if they don't hear anything but it's case by case. If you don't want to be bothered, stay stock.

Same thing with tints. The difference is the cops can use the photometer to mesure precicely the amount of tint.

For headlight, you cannot have any color except of white. HID are legal as long as they don't blind the upcoming cars. White = between 4300k and 6000K. More than that and you can be in trouble.

Twon, we all know that's not what the law says, it's what they have made it to mean.

Sonsep, replacement cross-drilled rotors are crap, they crack and are stupid. The ones used on high-end sports cars cost like 500-1000$ for EACH rotor, that's why they work. The ones they sell for Civics are 80$ each, do the math.
