How legal is it for the city to raise infraction prices over time?

Yep, pretty much my bad! My physical address is somewhere else than my primary residence and I totally forgot to pay a ticket I got a looong while ago.

Just took a look, and a simple 2 point, 125$ ticket went up like crazy?

How legal is this? This is way beyond the actual interest rate and I'd be interested in seeing the legalities behind this and if there is some way to pay only the original fine (which I'm more than willing to admit.. a measly 72 in 50 zone)

All perfectly legal.
The original fine does not change. What you get charged for are fees.
You did not show up court you pay for the judge.
You pay for the salary of the court clerk, the city employee who sends the letter to your old address, the salary of the employee that as to follow up because they did not get yout payement, the filling, the stamps, everything.

Why would they have to support all this because you forgot???
Like you said its your bad!! Suck it up.

By the way you were lucky. You could have gotten your licence suspended for unpaid tickets. Get a routine stop and you het towed!!
You could have gotten a ticket for not having sent in your new adress.

Pretty sure most of those tasks are fully automated, but I get the idea ;)

And your comment about sucking it up is unwise to say the least. I've always assumed my responsibilities. It doesn't go to an old address, just a residence I rarely go to.

Suck it up as in just to bad you have to pay.
I'm not one to insult people here.
Its not legal to have an adress other tehn your residence adress on your drivers licence.
You cant put your office adresse our a PO box. It has to be your "lieu de residence"
