i found a ecu for my 94 gsr . now, the ecu is square instead of being rectangular, is this normal ? some people told me that only the 96 up japanese obd 2 ecu are square. does that mean that i'm running a obd 2 ecu in my obd 1 engine ? if that was the case would the engine run properly or at all ? i gotta say that the check engine light comes on once the engine as heated up . but my mecanic told me the code that comes up is the knock sensor ,so i dont know.

need some help !

If the check engine light comes on when the engine is hot, it's probably a O2 sensor. I would doubt that your running a OBDII ecu with a OBDI harness and engine because there would be a bunch of sensors not pluged up.

tell us what code you are getting....no @#%$ way am I gonna play the guessing game with a check engine light

Well I checked for you and the 96 and up Integra ECUs are square. So that mean your running a OBDII ecu for sure (checked at work yesterday)

obd-1 vs obd-2

you can't plug a obd-2 ECU on a obd-1 ecu HARNESS , the connector are not the same .

and btw JDM obd-2 ecu 96-99 only use 1 oxygen sensor . on the H22a ecu it use only the front oxygen sensor

Re: obd-1 vs obd-2

I know he can't plug up a OBDII ecu on a OBDI harness but maybe is engine is a OBDI converted to OBDII with the harness and ecu. Square ecu is OBDII ecu but I don't know if it's from JDM land or just from over here. The one I saw at work was from a USDM car so I know that it is probably a USDM OBDII ecu. Pre OBDII ecus are rectangular but you could just give us the code on the ecu and I'll be able to tell you exactly what it is.

Re: obd-1 vs obd-2

Most jap spec OBD 1 computers
are square.(P-30 , P-72 , P-70)
