you're gonna have to give more information...
I agree with gtracer because you can get one for ~$10k at the dealer with a 2 year warranty ;)

Like gtracer said, a MK4 2L Golf is a good option as a 1st car. Also, I would say that a 4 door is more convenient for everyday use.
Thus, I would suggest you my MK4 2003 Golf CL, 4 door, black, 5 speed, mags for the summer, steelies for the winter, a 40,000 kms 2007 engine and tranny, 180,000 kms body (mint), GTI tail-lights, M3 style mirrors with blue LED integrated flashers, A1.
If interested, send me a PM and I can give you more infos on the car.
I'm asking 7,000$. I have an eye on another dub at the moment, so it's a good time for you to deal....!!!
Hope to hear from you soon...!

My friend Jérémie Arpaia had a customer that bought a brand new beetle and wanted to swap a 24v VR6 in it, which he did.
At that time, I was planning to to the timing belt job + a lot of other stuff on the engine/drivetrain, then came this opportunity......:p
Cheaper than a swap....not a 1.8T or VR, but it's my car to go to work so....:D
