Obama considers expanding Afghan security force: report

U.S. President Barack Obama is considering a plan that would double the size of Afghanistan’s security force to about 400,000 troops and police officer to stabilize the nation, The New York Times reported on Wednesday.

Obama was expected to approve a version of the plan in coming days as part of a broader Afghanistan-Pakistan strategy, the report said, citing senior administration and Pentagon officials.

Afghanistan now has about 90,000 troops and the Afghan National Police numbers about 80,000 officers, the newspaper said.

The relatively small size of the security forces has frustrated Afghan officials and American commanders who wanted to turn security over to legitimate Afghan security forces, and not local warlords, at a faster pace, the Times reported.

The White House declined comment on the report.

The administration’s goal of a 400,000-strong Afghan security force is more than three times the size that U.S. officials believed would be adequate for Afghanistan in 2002, when the Taliban and Al Qaeda appeared to have been routed, the report said.

According to the newspaper, cost projections for the program range from $10 billion to $20 billion over the next six or seven years. The annual budget for the entire Afghan government is largely provided by the United States and other international donors.

lol...those videos are serious reflection of how fucked the country and the YOUTH of today is

no matter what people might say, the US is in a war, there are no fair wars, and never was. If someone were to hit me, i'd make sure I'd hit him back at least 10X as bad as he did. I totally understand israel when they invaded and kicked the shit out of gaza. Unfortunately there is collateral damage, but a war without casualties doesn't exist, even if innocents are implicated, or not.

Now, if the US is in iraq and afghanistan, we all know it's for the fuel, but tell you what, it doesn't matter wetter it's for fuel, food, candies, rice. the US have to keep their mission Iraqi freedom going strong, I for one, felt honored all three times I have been deployed over there, not because I feel that we are there for a legitimate reason, but because my country orders me to go kick some ass. As a soldier, I had to instruct and train afghan police every single week, we are mostly there for the fuel, but guess what, we do want this shitty piece of land to actually have to fear no more than humid days and bugs, and if we , us, soldiers of the canadian forces, british forces, belgian, france, united state and german army, have to stay over there for another 10 years, I will gladly wake every single morning with a smile on my face, waiting to do my part of clearing this beautiful country, landscape-wise, I surely will.

Obama's plan to increase afghan police is the minimum we can do to support this "war", I don't mind getting paid 20K a year to go over there, just enough to pay the bills.

WOW!!!!

I am so glad that by your own words you recognize the illegetimacy of this whole debacle, yet sit there without any remorse for "kicking some ass" in the name of "fuel".

I see those Canadian Armed Forces commericals that flood the TV these days actually do work!

Your a true patriot sir!

Honestly, you should mvoe there and go into a "permanent combat mode"!

Its the noble thing to do, leave this country so the elite can light their cigars with 100$ bills while you fill yourself with a false sense of "doing the right thing".

War is the Solution.
