Hey guys,I just got some touch up work to get rid of some rust done at a body shop, basically there were two spots where they sprayed. around the sprayed area there is light (who am i kidding i dont know the difference between light and heavy overspray) its not that noticeable to the naked eye but you can definitely feel it.I'm just wondering how i can correct this? I figured theres buffing or even using a clay bar but i want to be certain before trying any of these. How long should i wait before taking any action on the fresh paint?

Use a medium to heavy clay bar and then repolish the area !

For overspray you'll definitely need to polish. If the paint under the clear has been over-sprayed then you probably won't be able to do anything about this. If its overspray of clear then its possible to correct. Just make sure the paint has been cured and this is done by waiting a minimum of 30 days. Remember to polish using the lightest cutting pad (white LC Pad) and by doing a test spot first. Then if it isn't correcting enough you gradually move up to a more aggressive cutting pad (orange LC Pad). Good luck!

my best advice is bring it to Vince, he knows your car and he did a good job on it!

There's really no heavy or medium, both have to be deal the same way. However the lenght of time that it has stayed will play a major factor when correction will be done. Worst case is wet sand and then polish.

A clay bar will only correct if it's a fresh overspray. There's no time required, and the sooner the better. However all fresh paint must be corrected with silicon free polishes. So avoid products like turtle wax, zaino.....

thx for the heads up, i brought it back to the body shop yesterday and they took care of it, free of charge of course. But always good to know what to do in the event something happens outside of body shop!

I'm curious, where did you take your car? Good outcome? How much?I have some touch ups to do on my MK3 Jetta, that's why I'm asking :D
