So this is re: a friend of mine, he's:

- 18.
- lives at home
- conflicts with parents/money/weight
- made avg salary working at popular food chain restaurant.
- likes to show off his money to girls and other ppl he doesn't know


I think he's going about this all wrong.. seriously.. it's a pretty odd way to approach someone!

I'm worried.

Is he trying to use his base salary as a way to compensate for something? After looking through his Facebook albums, it's clear to see that it makes him perfectly happy...

The problem isn't really what he's doing.. it's what he's doing to himself.

Does it make sense that he's unloading practically all of his money to buy girls drinks and dinners and stuff, considering they immediately "friend-zone" him, and he gets nothing for it? (vs expectations)

If that wasn't bad enough, he actually brags about it.

I don't know what to say to him.. he just won't listen.

smack him across the face and tell him that hes a worthless piece of shit that needs to achieve something in life
 
he probably brags because he feels like an idiot about being turned down by all the girls

if he's only 18 maturity will come. sounds like a kid acting like a kid, i wouldnt worry

What do you expect, he's 18... Starting to make a little bit of money, thinking he's the king of the world. He'll figure things out by himself, probably the hard way. Give him a few more years.

Besides, you said he's overweight, right? He's probably self-conscious and tries to compensate for his looks through money, in an attempt to get laid. Probably doesnt know about the ladder theory heh

Get him a membership to the gym, and try to get him to spend some of his dough on something more productive.. A hobby maybe?

Agreed.

The kid knows where he needs to improve, but I'm not sure that he knows what to do (he won't listen) and apparently he doesn't know the implications of his idiocy.

Avoue, it's all a part of his inexperience, but he's being SO stubborn in understanding this.

HE GETS PLEASURE from it, not from the actual giving part, but from telling all his friends:

"Hey i took this super hot chick out we went to dinner and a movie and shopping and i paid for everything, youre a loser cause youre not as cool and dont make as much as me"

It's really embarrassing.
