Clay Bar

So I clayed my car today and it's white so every little thing the clay bar is suppose to pick up is pretty obvious.

Now I know you are not supposed to put pressure on the clay bar as you rub it on the paint, but I thought you were suppose to run it back in forth or in circles until it felt smooth.

Well on my car it was smooth, there was no resistance, but all the little rust spots and whatnot were not getting picked up.

So I put some pressure and then it all came off and it was fine.

So my question is, is my clay bar to smooth for what I was doing? Is it ok to put pressure?

what color is the clay bar?

There are different grades of clay bars.. grey being one of the harsh ones, depending on who mades them too... blue can sometimes be a smooth clay that doesn't remove wax... yellow is in between.

Ok so if my clay bar is to smooth for what I'm trying to remove, is it bad to put pressure on it? I keep it well lubed so it doesn't stick, but can it damage the clear coat to rub it hard?

well try it. and if you see marks on your paint after. then you know it's not good.

I, some times, see marks after my clay bar but I don't care because I know I will be doing a compound right after so I will elimate those ''lines''. But when, I'm just doing a claybar with no compound. I just take more times on the same spot and be more careful.

Anyways, don't you have a nice cleaning soap with extremely good lubricant that won't scratch called sans-eau to go with your clay bar ??:dunno:

Yes, Sans-ZO can be used as a claybar lubricant and it works quite nicely. There was no scratching, even if I put lots of pressure on the claybar.

then why would you care if you had to put more pressure on the clay as long as it's gone. That is the only thing matters no? Once that clay bar is done, think about carring a more agressive one.

I know what the product can do, but I'm still learning about clay bars. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything damaging.

Just because you have the right products doesn't msean you can't use a bad technique.
