Hello

I have tried posting on this forum months ago and got flamed so here goes we'll see if i survive this time!

I was searching the internet for possible engine swaps to put into my 1989 240sx. I searched for more than a month now and have come across many interesting and unusual swaps. I have seen some RB swaps, older VGs and of course millions of SR swaps. I even saw a 2JZ swap but the one that interested me the most was the corvette LT1 engine swap!

Does anyone know what kind of complications I could run into if I attempted to do this project? Does anyone know what kind of mods I would have to do to get it to fit? Has anyone else in Montreal put a v8 into a 240sx? How much do you guys think this would cost? and finally is there any shops who could do this for me?

Anyway any information would be greatly appreciated!

Denis

See guys let this be an example to you all. he did reserach, posted his results and asked for a VALUABLE question which he couldnt find the answer to online searching. this is what i want and will NEVER flame someone for this. I just woke up and saw this i have to answer now so if my info sucks and doesnt help :) im sorry ill post again after more in depth :p:D

Shops to do this best bet would be a Muscle car shop. Now i am unfamiliar with LT1 engines. are they carburated or EFI? all i know is my friend's Z06 is fuel injecter Chevy 5.7 liter power house.

First order of business would be telling me the fuel system. Now i will assume it is carburated. if it is not i would HIGHLY recommend running a standalone fuel computer.

Physical fitment sizes (is the engine physically too wide to fit in the engine bay?) will be the first order or business. measure and make sure.

Next would be engine mounts. Custom mounts will need to be fabricated which is not the easier thing in the world but is very feasible by any good shop with good fabrication skills.

Up next will be making sure the Shifter arrives at an acceptable spot inside the cabin.

Driveshaft and tranny mounts will almost guaranteed be custom made

A cowled hood will be a must judging by most american engines ive seen around. Even VG swaps in 240s need cowled hood so im sure a larger V8 with carbs on top will have clearance issues.

The way i would do it is Custom fabricate FULLY a front cross member and make sure to include the steering rack to fit on it. again a good race fabrication shop will be able to do this.

The ONLY V8 powered 240 i have seen was used in Lemans racing and if i remember was using a chevy 5.7 liter from a Z06

www.freshalloy.com go to the forum and search both Basic AND advanced 240sx. there was a V8 in 240sx thread maybe 3 months ago. i remember it was discussed in detail as what to do and such and ideas were thrown around alot in there.

Good luck with this. wont make the best handling car but i will FOR SURE want to feel what a American V8 response machine feels like in a 240sx. Already my friend's Z06 feels soooooo good (Y)

found a kit

Hello

I asked my mechanic how much it would cost to do the v8 swap and he told me it would cost something like 15 thousand bucks! I of course was completely discouraged by this! Here I was thinking I got a cheap and effective way to get between 300 and 400hp and 300lbs of torque.

As I mentioned I was discouraged all until I got an e-mail from a guy that sells 240sx v8 swap kits. Heres what he sent me....

So what do you guys think would this solve all or at least most of my problems, is it worth it?

go for it, you'll love it !!!!
i own a 88 V8 RX7 and it's a wonderful toy

this swap kit is very expensive, you should try to find someone that will do a custom one. this shouldn't be too complicated for a good welder as the 240sx engine bay as a proper layout for a v8 engine.

btw a donor car is THE way to begin such a project
good luck
