i'm going to buy a gsr in 4 days and put that mofo in my 93 hatch, but i heard people saying that the v-tec on the gsr engine is not as agressive as the b16a or the type R , is that true ? would putting type R cams in it help the problem ?

thanks

re

If you plan on leaving the car relatively stock than i would go with the b18c5 no question about it. I have one in my civic and i ran 14.10. But if you want to build the motor i would go with the b18c1 this motor loves NOS. Stock you should run 14.55. The Vtec in the gsr kills the vtec in the SIR by a long shot.
Its all up to you.
Hope this helps.

NOS blows this up....ask the guy with the silver civic hatch w/b18c5 4 fogger and cams. He is now shopping for new rods, pistons, and selling his body for money.

No seriously, if it is properly installed you won't have porblems as long as you use it responsible. GSR engines are easy to find and even easier to modify. Yes CTR or ITR cams fit and work incredibly well.

nos

Oh ya and before that he had a gsr with nos without any problems, With a better 1/4 time if im not mistaken.

nos

Yep...he blew his mnotor because when he started it the chamber was full of NOS. That was the mother of all "!pings".

Personally I am not a fan of NOS because I like going fast on road courses. Nitrous is good for 1/4 times but that`s about it. I would prefer a turbo kit to Nitrous any day. I realize that the initial cost of a turbo is way more than nos, but you never have to refil a turbo kit! It really comes down to what you want to do with the car and for how long. I you never want to have problems with the car, don`t go forced induction period. If you want cheap straight line fun, go nos, if you have more budget and want to have more power all the time, go turbo.

Re: nos

Jamil's motor didn't pop because of nitrous, he blew his rad while lapping
at St.Eustache Autodrome and overheated the engine. RESULT, he blew
the head gasket, warped the deck of his block, and scratched pistons and
cylinder walls. That's why he's looking for pistons, rods and what ever.
(not the nitrous!)
All b series engines can generally take about the same nitrous. Compression
ratio also has nothing to do with wether the motor can take it or not. In
the states they have cars running nitrous with compression ratios of 13
or 14.1 on high octane fuel.
Nitrous is not as bad as you think if tuned properly and done within
reason.

Re: nos

what's (Hang-Around) and how do you change that?

keep posting..... it'll change.

As for NOS vs Blower vs Turbo arguement, I'm not getting into that.

civicb18j6- which engine is better is tough engine. Granted, the B18C5 is a jewel of an engine....truly awesome. It all depends on how fast you wanna go ($$$$$$) but all round, I would suggest the B18C1, you should be really happy with it.

I think that putting a 4 fogger NOS kit on a stock motor is asking for trouble. For less power you need a single fogger. My brother ran a 12.90 in a civic type-r with a single fogger.

As for your (hang-around) name it's Danny who has to change it.

i'm no doubt going for the b18c gsr cuz that's how high i can go as far as cash. i have to get a body and paint job done too, so it's gonna be lots of money !!! one other thing i'd like to ask you guys is there a lsd avaible on u.s. or jdm gsr tranny and is a lsd something you can buy aftermarket ? i cant believe i'm gonna have my gsr engine thuesday !!!! i've been shopping engines since march, finally patience pays !!! after getting smoked all summer long. it's gonna be my turn to do some smokin' !!!!!!!

Here's the deal with the Hang-Around thing.

Each user has a rating based on how many posts he/she has done.

After 10 posts you become a racer.
After 25 it's Gold Racer
50 - Street Frak
100 - Platinum Racer
250 - City Pimp
400 - Blazin Mofo

I can change the names anytime but your ranking is done automatically.

I thought Tony fixed Jamil's car and now he has it at Laminar for the ignition or something not related to the motor.

kaboom...

His car is still dead with a capital D. His head was fixed but the cylinder was scathed and he is now looking for rods pistons and the works...

Re: typer

97 civic TypeR, the 12.9 on nitrous (single fogger) wasn't bad, but that CRX(laminar) you raced a few nights ago on the 20 ran 13.09@104 mph on a stock TypeR. The cars basically weigh the same. In my opinion, IT's got to be a 4 fogger or nothing! You can still run a 50 or 60 shot on a 4 fogger. I personally think nitrous is great.

Re: typer

NO don't get me wrong i love NOS, Adtuning has been using it for years. The Civictype-r that ran 12.9 with nos only ran 14.20 all motor. Definetly with a 4 fogger system we would of had better times. But NOS states that it is not wise to put a 4 fogger system on a stock bottom, If im not mistaken.

Why on earth would he remove that motor. 13.09 stock is amazing. How can he have a 1 second better time if the car wasn't lighter.

Re: B18C5

If im not mistaken ,didnt Tonys civic type r run a 13.50 all motor with slicks!!!

Anyways back to the previous topic;
How can you speak of how a motor blew,
if you havent seen it for yourself.
The motor needed some repairs,
as a result of severe overheating.
Since the motor is opened, the customer
wisely took this opertunity to do a bit of
internal customising!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nitrous on a B18C5 can work fine up to 80 HP
as long as the NOS instructions are followed.
As a driver you have to have RESPECT for your
nitrous. If not used properly you can blow the
motor through a single gear.
I know I blew 3 motors in two weeks!!
Like Lucatronics said , high compression is fine
with nitrous, as long as you run colder plugs
and retard your timing accordingly.

OH by the way i removed my type r to sell it,
and were now in the process of trying to make
a B16A bottom end run the same times(with the help
of a HONDATA tuning system). To date the cars best
run has been a 13.85@99MPH.With more tuning and
colder weather im hoping for 13.40@102MPH.
Next year;2.0 liter block in the hopes of running
mid twelves, well, we can hope.

Ok I think I got it....

Lucatronics is Lucas and Laminar X is Rob.... I am a ****n' genius. :)
