Washing car in winter?

I heard if you don't wash your car in the winter, it protect itself from the salt and sand on the road.

Dunno if it's true... but I never wash my car.....

it all depends where the car is parked. If you drive it out in the salt and snow and then come park it in a warm garage... DEFINITELY hose your car down with water, esp the wheel wells. Or else the snow is just sitting there with salt, slowly melting, so thats basically a mix of water+salt for hoursss on your car. Can you imagine what happens? Rust.

Now if you park outside. You dont need to do anything. Why? Simple. The snow and salt mix is just frozen in place. No damage done to the car. The temperature is so low here that the chemical reaction needed to rust wont occur. However as soon as the temperatures is warm enough to make ice and snow melt.... same principal as before... you better hose the car down completely with water.

Make sure when you wash it, to do it everywhere. Try aiming the hose at your suspension parts, brakes,etc if you want your car to last long..

If you havent rust-proofed it, do that also.

Last but not least, if you want to keep it clean... its hard in the winter, esp if we get one like last year. I used to wash my car once a week, so I dont get high deposits of salt accumulated. But thats just me. Some people dont even do it once the entire winter.

personnelement je le lave au moins 1 fois aux 2 semaines.. dans les lave auto ou on lave nous meme.. parcontre j,amene ma chaudiere, ma mitaine et mon savon..meme si on a pas vraiment le droit..en campagne on a le temps en masse! mais au fond, c'est surtout pour enlever la saleté/neige/glace accumulée dans les fausses ailes

Washing your car and then exposing it to sub zero temperature is normally bad for your car ! Water creeps into moldings, seams, rust and expands when frozen, pretty much acts like a crowbar everytime it freezes. Keeping your car dry and cold is proberly your best bet in prolonging the body !

i don't want to go to metropolitain rust proofing.....where else can you have your car rust proofed?



my dad has a 7 year old civic, no rust on the body so far, the fender is starting though....he never wash the car.....sigh.....i guess honda has some quality paint.....

since my cars are always parked outside I hardly wash them as well

HOWEVER, i'll wait for a really sunny/warm day once a month and bring it to an automatic "sans-contact" car wash just to blast all the crap off it and especially underneath.

Moi j'ai un hood neuf sur le primer que je voulais faire peinturer et p-t mes moulures du meme coup! Donc c'est quoi faut j'fasse? Peinture, faire faire un bon lavage avec cire puis anti-rouille metropolitain? Ou l'anti-rouille puis une fois le surplus parti, je fais faire un bon lavage avec cire?



Mes ailes arrieres sont rendu rouillés et je veux les refaire faire....j'fais bien d'attendre au printemps j'imagine? Le hood j'ai juste pas le choix vu que yé sur le primer.

moi jle lave a peu pres chaque semaine mais jtravaille dans un lave-auto a la main donc spa les moyens qui me manque. Jamais eu de probleme. Une bonne cire avant lhiver fait pas de mal non plus

Water goes into everything when u wash the car.

if you do want to wash it, you can, but I'd suggest doing this in a heated garage.
