My turbo Ford Tempo drag car.
goal to run low 13sec or high 12secs
I may do some track days with SAE lapping club with it.

I will be turboing a 2.3L I plan on making close to 300hp and about the same torque.
a bit on the set up. since this is a different kind of project my curent plain will change with time
that is something I know from boost nunbers to hp nnber wil be deferent in the real world and even for
parts placement I will be working on that for a long time relocating parts here and there so if you see
a pics with a part at a different spot from pic to pic well don't worry I'M still trying stuff out.
so here a list of the parts and set up.

1988 Ford 2.3L block stock I'M not going to touch it for now.


new turbo just a cheap ebay turbo payed about 200$ was a good deal

I will get some new injectors to be able to make over 300hp the injectors I have
now would need to run at 100% duty to make 300hp so that could give me problems if I try to boost
a bit more.

I will be using the stock lower and upper intake runners but I will port and cut them for
better flow. and doing it my self saves me a few dollars.

fuel pump walbro 255lph new in the box . so this is done and should not have any problems with fuel.

I will be getting a kirban ajustable fuel regulator. with the boost I want to make I will need to run
about 45 to 50psi of fuel presure.

the exaush will be custom I work has a mechanic in a muffler shop and I will make my self a 3" fromt to back
pipe with no muffler so i will have all the flow and need and then some.

all my IC pipes will be made at the shop too why not we have all the tools to do it .

I will run my vane air flow meter in a push setup to make the tuning ezzyer and to hel pamke it run better
since the bov will let the air out before the its calculated by the computer it will help in the tuning and
will make my work ezzyer and faster.

now for the tranny . the tranny is built and should take 650hp I will never go up there
with my curent setup so I will not worry about droping tranny gears on the track.
I have a MTX3 tranny with 3.33 final gears. all the gears have been cryo treated to be more solid
its not like I could have ordered a tranny that was readdy to drop in from a speed shop no one races or turbos Tempos but me.
well may be 1 or 2 more. I have a phantom grip lock diff in it it will give me more tracktion out of the hole on the drag strip

now for the body well its all strip to the bone when you see the pics you will see im serious about this and not a jackstan racer
I have lots of time and cash invested in this car and engine setup. all the bumpers have been gutted out the car and engine will
be about 2400lbs to 2500lbs readdy to race so that should help me get better times, the car has instaled a drag roll gage I know that at the speed I will be running
I don't need one for most drag track but the gage is the for me for my protection. and a nice racing seat.
and 5 point belts. side door windows are lexan . and all doors are gutted out.
now the pain is white its not the best pain job but its clean and it wont make people paint and laught.

I should have this readdy for April 2010 for drag nights. [ YA in my dreams it will be readdy]
I plain to run at NAPI,Icar,ASE,Lucksville, and any place I can find a spot to drag. [ no street racing for me ]

thanks for great feedback , lots of work done but lots more to do. but it will happend in a few weeks we will make a video of the first starts.
 
if your thinking about doing some lapping with ASE, your going to need a passenger seat for the instructor, or your not getting on the track at all..
 
Wow! Can't wait to see you at Napi. You should get your car pictures on TURBOFORD, they will love it. It would be cool to have a match race at Napi with my T-Bird Turbo Coupe.

I will do my instuctor runs with my V6 escort after I can run solo, i will use the tempo.

hard to put a passenger seat since Im air to water IC is there.

Its a 1988 ford Thunderbird turbo coupe engine so we will run the same engines.
and yes I will be happy to see you too at NAPI. ViVa Ford.

J'ai telement hate d'aler sur le dyno.
 
J'aime bien ton setup, particulièrement ton IC. Normalement, on ammène l'eau au IC dans le compartiment moteur, toi tu fais le contraire, amener l'air dans l'habitable vers un IC qui baigne dans l'eau.

Vu le placement du turbo, ça a du sens. Ça fait une pièce de moins qui peut faire défaut (la pompe à eau).

La seul chose à s'assurer est que le "flex" du moteur ne brise pas les pipes. Ça a l'air bien "tight" sur le TB et c'est ce qui me ferait peur un peu. Peut-être mettre une couple de couplings avec une bosse?

L'idée c'est que la tank est fixe mais pas le moteur.

Sinon, c'est super comme projet. Lâche pas!!!!!
 
Wow. you know when a guy spends time and effort like this he is serious. The lexan windows are not cheap either. love your air to water intercooler. Good luck at the track.

Nice! Ces moteurs la sont très solide! they love boost!

j'ai beaucoup de respect pour un projet dans le genre. Beaucoup de custom parce que tu ne fais pas que suivre le chemain emprunté par les autres avant toi.

ex: quand tu monte un civic, tout les setup moteur / suspension on déja été testé, beaucoup plus facile d'allé vitte ainsi

le soudeur en moi a peur pour l'étanchéité de certaines soudures par contre

mes supore a moteure son direct c'est des pipe en metal.
sa vas pas bouger. je vais avoir 2 pompe a leau 2 electrique
une pour le cooling du moteure et une pour le IC je vais instaler un radiateure de plus en avant pour cooler le IC .
