Following two passes at the Ehra-Lessien track near Wolfsburg, Germany on the fourth of July, with Guinness Book of Records officials present, the Veyron Super Sport officially averaged 431.17 km/h besting the former record holder, the SSC Ultimate Aero TT by nearly 20 km/h.

Traffic pylon orange wheels and two-tone paint aside, the Veryon Super Sport has a tweaked version of its famed W16 engine with four enlarged turbochargers and heavier-duty intercoolers. The revised powerplant cranks out 1,200 horsepower and 1,106 lb.-ft. of torque, up from the standard version’s 1,001 horsepower and 922 lb.-ft. of torque. Having driven one of the “standard” models personally, it’s difficult to imagine what having an extra 199 horsepower on board might feel like.

ok c'est pcq un moment donner ... on va dire que c'est pu une auto mais un avion pcq on va lui metre des ailes !!! Je me demande ou sa va arreter

Bugatti has unveiled the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport - its promised 1,200 horsepower version of the Veyron model - which has now set a new land speed record of over 430 km/h (268 mph).
On Saturday afternoon (July 3) at the Volkswagen Group's Ehra-Lessien track near Wolfsburg, Germany, the Veyron Super Sport set an average top speed rating of 431,072 km/h (268 mph). Piloted by Bugatti test driver Pierre Henri Raphanel, with German inspection officials (TÜV) keeping watch, the car topped out once at 428 km/h and second time at 434 km/h. A representative of the Guinness Book of Records was on hand to witness the new world record.

"We took it that we would reach an average value of 425 km/h (264 mph), but the conditions today were perfect and allowed even more," said Dr. Wolfgang Schreiber, Bugatti's chief engineer, in the press release.

The 1,200-hp (882 kW) and 1,500 Nm (1106 lb-ft) of torque of the Super Sport represents a 200 hp and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) increase over the standard Veyron. Bugatti engineers achieved the power upgrade by using four enlarged turbochargers on the 8.0 liter, 16-cylinder engine along with larger intercoolers. The Veyron Super Sport also gets a chassis tuning with a higher main-spring travel, strengthened stabilizers and racing-grade shock absorbers.

The street prowling version of the Veyron Super Sport, though, will be electronically limited to 415 km/h (258 mph).

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport will make its first public appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California in August.

from one of the smartest men in the business:

Ron Dennis, Executive Chairman of McLaren Automotive, has described the world's most expensive production car as ‘a complete piece of junk'. The 63 year-old was being interviewed by Arabian Business when he said he could not even find a single aspect of the Bugatti Veyron that makes him feel good.

The man generally credited with Lewis Hamilton's racing success said the Veyron is pig ugly and cannot handle very well.

"I know that they have to cut the car open to take the engine out," he stated. "To make an engine in that configuration, you know, it doesn't go around corners."

Dennis then went on to refer to a BBC Top Gear comparison of his previous supercar, the McLaren F1, against Bugatti's technological tour de force. He described how the V12-powered F1 trounced the 16-cylinder Veyron so many times off the line that the filming crew got frustrated because his car was supposed to be beaten. Eventually the Veyron stopped dropping its clutch on take-off and was able to catch up to the McLaren F1.

The Bugatti Veyron is powered by an 8.0-litre, quad turbo engine making 736 kW (987 bhp /1,001 PS). In contrast the McLaren F1 had a naturally aspirated 6.0-litre kicking out 468kW (628bhp/ 636PS).

En tous cas elle doit pu être belle après que tu l'ais pogné à 431 km/h. :run:

like all people with a ego the size of ron dennis....the man cant possibly accept someone is doing sothing better then he does (all the kids must have mclaren f1 posters in their bedrooms not veyrons)....

Fact is...you can call it ugly...hyperexpensive....ridiculously hi maintenance (a crew sent to change your shoes)

Fact is its an audi...its well engineered...does more then 1 g on the skidpad...ron dennis can take it up the as..
