Ghost city in China ? no way !

Production will always go where it is the cheapest. After China it is not Japan, USA, India, it will be more Vietnam, Malaysia and other Asian countries.

If production comes back to the U.S. it is because labor costs and cost of leaving as come down significantly.

We're saying the same thing.

I expect transportation cost would also help.

cheap oil = don't care if parts has to travel five times half the globe

Every over inflated housing & real estate bubble has collapsed. It happened to HK, to Japan, to the U.S. and many other countries worldwide. Why would China be any different?

China should play by the rules and re-evaluate the yuan but they won't for fear their economy will significantly slow down and cause millions to be out of work.

The difference here is that China's "government" has real power, unlike the government here who have to kiss the asses of the corporate elites and follow their every whim(or fight an election every 4 years) power to change internal and external monetary policies with a whim of a flick of a finger ! In essence their style of government is as effective as a military command structure of autocratic leadership and those of us who are in the military understand this style perfectly to a T and know how effective it is, put this together with national pride of a 1.3 billion and you start to see what a real tiger can do to you !

By 2012, China's "high speed" rail network will be larger than the entire world's rail network combined, this is a example of what you are dealing with in terms of a microcosm example, the largest, biggest, fastest and strongest of "anything" will be in China, mark my words ! Well even Napoleon Bonaparte knew it back in 1812 when asked by one of his aides if France should invade China, he replied, "Leave her alone, let her sleep, when she awakes the world will shake" Well she is only half awake and the world is already shaking !

Maybe, but even when the barrel was trading at $150 US it was still cheaper to send it to China. Eventually labor costs will go up in China, maybe the barrel will go to $200, and if labor costs collapse in western society then we can see manufacturing coming back.

However, for volume production such as electronic components and other general goods, you can't beat Asia.

Furthermore, you don't have to provide any social benefits to the Chinese labor force which is a tremendous cost savings.

That is one of the biggest myths the western media has been feeding the public about cheap labour in China, in fact the labour in China is higher than most of the developing countries like Mexico, Brazil, Vietnam, India and Pakistan etc..., why aren't they there ? ...LoL too long for me to explain

Sony just got rid of their Mexico plant for HDTVs and sold it to China's Honai TV plant. Look at all the Bravia TVs going for dirt cheap at BB and FS !

I remember when everything was "Made in Hong Kong", but then it all got moved to China since it became to expensive to produce there. Regardless...once the economy crates enough wealth...it will just keep rolling. Unless they just go spend crazy and send all the money back to LVMH ;)

China labor costs are much lower than Brazil.

Labor Costs
Brazil is cheaper than almost all other South American or European countries, with a 30% salary advantage cost over the US. However it is not the cheapest option, with Indian locations benefiting for an additional 30% cost advantage. The average salary for an "entry level" IT worker is about $9,000, while in China and India it's about $5,500.

The difference is that China has a manufacturing base that covers light to heavy industries from making t-shirts to ships, aircraft and nuclear reactors where the others cannot cover this spectrum of industries plus their labour force just don't have the IQ and manual dexterity that is required to cover this broad base. Anyone that has worked with the Chinese in procurement will tell you this plus they have the transportation infrastructure to move the goods out fast and a navy that can escort it against pirates where the others don't. In the early 70's it was Japan and the 80's all you hear in the media was Mexico, where are they now, almost unheard of !

LoL ...only they can do it !, it is called gensis of a whole city, move everyone over to the new city and then rebuild the old one with no interference of traffic or daily activities. Imagine Montreal rebuilt with no traffic or construction chaos !

Haiti should really try this, instead of listening to the stupid west for telling them and wasting money, resources and manpower to hold silly elections when they people don't even have a roof over their heads nor food. This is the trick the west uses to keep 3rd world nations poor so they can do their slavery work and then get grants if they listen to them and their silly ideas ! Anyone that has common sense will not hold silly elections right after an earthquake when the population is decimated !

China did the same with Sichuan where the earthquake hit and they have a new city in less than 2 years !
