The oil life monitor simply goes by number of engine starts, engine temps and rpm's by adapting to your style of driving ..... it can-not verify oil levels, quality of the oil used (ie synthetic or mineral base) or time frame between services.

A pars ca, c'est useless pcq tu le change a chaque 5-6000 km that's it.

This.

I'm not sure if these new "oil monitoring" systems have made my job easier, or harder lol

Yup, the new Fords, GM's, all doing higher mileage now with these new motors..

We sell a lot more of the standard Amsoil OE now because of it. Ppl can now run sometimes up to 15k and our OE oil as opposed to a much bigger additive package.
It's come a long way!

* Conductivity -- how easily electric current passes through the oil (typically, the lower the electrical resistance, the more contaminants are in the oil)
* Mechanical properties -- piezoelectric sensors can tell how thick the oil is by the force feedback it gives when sloshing around
* Soot concentration -- dirty oil's days are definitely numbered
* Presence of water -- water is an impurity in oil, since it hampers the oil's effectiveness and can corrode metal surfaces

Honda se basent sur plus de choses
The meter based around:
- the minimum quality standard of recommended oil (API SM/ILSAC GF-4)
- number of cold start cycles
- run time
- rpm
- fuel consumption
- engine temperature
