For a 40" screen there would have to be over 28 dead pixels for it be consider a defect based on Phillips/LG quality standards, the average Joe Blow does not appreciate that on 1080p screen 2,073,600+ pixels would have to be perfect which itself is an amazing feat in the manufacturing process. A 1% reject rate(DPM) is normally consider acceptable for "mission critical" applications, now we what to compare that to low end entertainment products that cost less than $300 and you start to see the miracle that these manufacturers have obtained !
