so here we go , there is no hate , nothing . i love 2 cars and i would like to get one of 2 one day , BUT my question is :

i check some prices for this 2 cars and i srsly dont get it one stuff .

Audi -- 4 door , alot of space , Quattro = fun, full equiped with everything possible .
GTI -- 2 door , nothing special inside except gti sport seats . FWD ,,, that it !!

GTI 2 door with FWD weight ONLY 200kg less then A4 4 door + quattro .

so my question is : how come GTI cost same money as A4 b6 .

example A4 2002 5spd -- around 5500$ 6k max .
GTI -- 5K-5500$.

:dunno:
IS there is something special in GTI that A4 dont have ?

Same as Jetta mk4 : GTI have everything the same as Jetta mk4 1.8t but cost 1/2 less then GTI .

Srsly Dont get it ?:dunno: only cuz its Rare model?

As a previous owner of a 1.8T GTI:

First off, the Jetta 1.8T does not cost half as much as a GTI 1.8T. In fact, I would say they are very close in price for the same condition/mileage/year.

As for the VW 1.8T and Audi 1.8T. I would venture a guess that they are both as reliable as the other. However, the Golf is the 3rd best selling car of all time (right behind the Ford F series and Toyota Corolla). That means parts (that it doesn't already share with Audi) are dirt cheap. Set of used headlights for $75, a bumper for $100, a whole door for $100...and the list goes on.

German luxury cars (Porsche excluded) depreciate far faster than any other car (aside British luxury cars). They have to in order to compensate for higher maintenance and parts costs over other cars. It's that simple, thats why both the VW and Audi cost the same today - It's what they are worth.

Go compare the MSRP of the Lexus IS300 and Audi A4 and their used prices on the market today. An IS300 sometimes goes for double the cost of an A4...because Lexus simply never breaks.

Hope I shed some light on the situation.

Get a GTI. You'll have more trouble with the A4.

Want my 337? It'll cost you double tho...

I've been trying to choose between cars like this for a while...and I know it's going to be a Quattro for me. I work on my cars myself so I don't give a shit about the costs...and parts prices have come down substantially in the past 2 years... + I'm really starting to hate FWD.

I've had both and would not trade my A4 back for a GTI. Love it and if you properly take care of it and don't beat it between every stop it's reliable.

It's quite simple....

If you want a 2 door FWD car get the Gti.

If you want a 4 door sedan with AWD get the A4.

Also, lift up the cars and check condition, maybe the A4 has a nice shopping list of repairs hence the lower end price....

I'll second that because I have not seen a 2002 A4 for "around 5500$ 6k max" in my life that's in good condition.

I would like to point out that you are comparing a premium model to a entry level model of a different manufacturer.

Try comparing the GTI to an A4 that’s equipped with the sports package is a more balanced approach, just like comparing a 337 to a USP. That being said it’s fair to say that Audi parts are more expensive than VW, take for example the front suspension parts, you can overhaul everything minus the shock & spring for 230$ on the mk4 but on an Audi your are looking at $400 for just the control arms.

The better question is what do you really want and what you can really afford, if you want to score a cheap Audi chances are you will have to change lots of parts that were neglected and that adds up $$$ quick, on the other hand the same scenario can happen with the GTI except the parts are cheaper.
