Shevchenko is not that good IMO. Milan feeds him chances that my 16 year sister can score on. I would love to see him on a less powerful team. Shevchenko cannot play under pressure, and passes up WAY too many chances for a premier striker.

I could be wrong, But i would like to see what he does for his country in the World Cup.

He has more or less, single handedly brought Ukraine to the World Cup, which is an opinion that countless analysts and experts agree with.

That's also the reason why he is a world class player.

sorry what i meant to say is lately this is how his performance has been lately. This year, especially his performance in the champions league was far from Footballer of the year 2004 quality.

He might not even play in the WC.

We're not going to see him on a less powerful team anytime soon! He just signed with Chelsea in the EPL. Chelsea is really starting to piss me off with their signings. Ballack and Shevchenko in the same summer? They're catching up to Real Madrid fast the way they're signing big name players.

Actually Shevchenko creates for himself. I don't even consider him a full out poacher. He doesn't really play the box like an Inzaghi/Toni/Van Nistelrooy/Crespo does. Shevchenko was probably the best striker in the world like 2 years ago.

Best player ever: Pele

And the only other player that can be compared to him is Maradona. Don't tell me Baggio. Maybe for Italians he's the best ever, like I could say it's Eusébio (since I'm portuguese). But we are talking about the greatest player EVER. (And for the record Eusébio is considered WAY better than Baggio!)

Best goalkeeper ever: Schmeichel

He is the best ever to have been in nets. Sorry, it wasn't Buffon!

Noone said Baggio was the best. Not even for Italians. I rank him up there with greatest italian players but men like my grandfather and older Italians will always say guys like Giuseppe Meazza and Luigi Riva were the best. IMO, Italian teams were built on defense therefore guys like Franco Baresi, Paulo Maldini and Gaetano Scirea were above the rest.

Schmeichel best goalie ever? That is laughable. Buy some DVD's or VHS's of some of the older World Cups or Cup Championships. Watch them...guys like Lev Yashin, Dino Zoff and Gordon Banks were 10 times the keeper Schmeichel was.

Lev Yashin, I agree. Only goalie to win player on the year! Truly amazing.

Gordon Banks, awesome goalkeeper, had a great world cup run in 1966, but mostly knowed for the "save of the century" on a header from pele.

I highly doubt they were 10 times better than Scmeichel...

I was exaggerating on 10 times but my hobby is watching and finding old recordings of these games. I need no introduction on Schmeichel because i watched him play live. While one of the best i can't put him the same class as the others..thing is...this thread is all about opinion so i must respect the fact that you think he is the best.

Samy if he is healthy there is no chance in hell that he won't start for the Ukraine, Shevchenko is definately a world class striker:bigup:

ronaldinho is not the best ever. saying that is the same as saying crosby is the best hockey player ever.

soccer has has many great players over the years. every country has had its time in the spotlight..
france had platini
brazil had pele
germany had beckenbauer
etc etc.

Eusebio, Pele, and Maradona.

These guys stepped it up big time for their countries. Thats what makes them the best.

Vlad's on the right track...

Pele, Diego Maradona, Michel Platini, Marco Van Basten, Beckenbauer, and the always entertaining Ruud Gullit.

Best keeper ever: Dino Zoff!

even as an Italian, I have to disagree with you there..

well as Italian, I agree that you disagree, because I remember him most for his heroics in '82 and not much else...but he brought us the world cup, so he'll forever be immortalized:bigup:

Best pure striker: Marco Van Basten
Best Keeper: Lev Yashin

If you notice that when today's players are asked to name their starting XIs, over 90% will take Van Basten as one of their strikers. This man was goal scoring machine. When the top ten goals of all time were chosen, three of them were scored by him. He wasn't the fastest/strongest/most skilled but he could put the ball in the net better than anybody before him ever could. As far as strikers go, he is the best ever! As for Yashin, those who no the slightest thing about soccer, know that this is undeniable. Everyone agrees, when it comes to keepers, no one has ever beaten out the Russian. Best goalie ever, find some footage to prove it. Now, who's the best midfielder ever?

WORLD CUP IN LESS THAN 100 HOURS!!!!!!!!!!
WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ronaldinho est loin d'etre le meilleur de tous les temps, c'est p-e le plus spéctaculaire pour faire des feintes pis mettre l'adversaire sur le cul mais il est loin des legendes du soccer...

Maradona et Pele sont encore loin devant!

What?! If you guys really watch football games, you got to say it is from so far Zinedine Zidane!!!! Spanish cup, Spanish league, Italian cup, Italian league, Champions league, World Cup.... As the Madrid journalists said, the only problem in Zidane's career is that he never played with a team of his level. Just imagine we switch ronaldinho with zidane ; OMG, zidane would score 4 goals per game.... I mean don't forget that ronaldihno plays with the very best club ( barca ) and the so very best national team ( brazil ). So I say in order : Zidane, Maradonna, Pélé, Ronaldihno/Ronaldo...

Anyway, one thing is sure: We are all waiting for that World Cup:run: *tu*

not yet as he is only mid way through his career , but he will eclipse them he he keeps this up.

like some1 said every country had its players and its time . many of the great may not have been so great had they played in different times.

IMO ronaldhino has the best ability with the ball that ive seen to date , by the time his career is over he will be great if not the greatest.

Zidane is very good but is getting old which explains him being slow/er
