For about a week now I have noticed that my car - Mazda3 2.0L - was running at 2900RPM at 100km/h (5th gear)
What could be the problem?

From what I understood your engine is running too fast for the car speed right??

One of your caliper(s) might be stuck and the car needs more power to attain 100kmh...That might be it..might be something else too!

Indeed, I feel like the engine is forcing too much. On the last gear at a 100km/h, the engine should be running at a cruising speed at around 2000-2500 but it might just be me!
Please check at which speed your cars run at a 100!
I think that the caliper situation could be right.
I was also thinking that a spark plug/cylinder could have been the problem but the engine light isn't on. At worst, Ill pay a visit to the garage...

2000 rpm...lol are you crazy....even 2500...Get you shit straight this engine revs a bit too much even for a 2liters..Always been that way....My v6 is at 2400rpm at 100kmh so everythings right about your car.

I get 2000 rpm at 100kmh in fifth.. but it's two completely different cars.
For a 4 banger, it does sound about right close to 3K rpm.

I have a Protegé 5, 5 speed. At 100 I'm travelling at 3000 RPM....

It's perfectly normal.

and Alex38 = Pillpopper ??? smurf!

The only thing I can think of is tire size, if you went from 17inch to 15 inch.

The outside diameter of the tires is suppose to stay the same, if he stuck to recomended tire size, he should be fine. Besides, don't 2.0 GS models come with 15s?
