you shouldn't have any problems rolling B20 in the winter - anything more and you might have problems.

I've used B20 from a place near Toronto and was very pleased. I've also gotten B5 from the Olco on Cartier in Pointe-Claire, and I wasn't happy with it....

Unless you're talking about running your car on Waste Vegetable Oil..... (WVO)

biodiesel is made from farmer's crops. It can also be made from animal by-products. It is one of the main reasons that the cost of wheat is ski-high.

It is much cleaner for the environment, and offers a higher cetane rating (like Octane in Gas) than most regular diesel. It also has higher lubricity meaning that it lubricates the injection pump better than the low-sulfur diesel that we get at the pumps. On the downside, it gels at low temperatures, so it gets blended with regular diesel. B5 is 5% Biodiesel, 95% Dino-Diesel.

Waste Vegetable Oil is the stuff that you can usually get for free from a Belle-Pro or somewhere like that; it is their deep fryer oil. Once you have the oil, it needs to be filtered (which you can do yourself) before you can run it on your car. You need to do a mild conversion to your car to run on this, but don't need to do anything to the engine itself.

This is all very neat stuff - guys in the USA have been running on Biodiesel and WVO for a long time now.

If anyone is interested in doing a conversion, I know a great guy who is converting VW's - PM me for info.

The other option is to build a converter that takes waste veg oil to produce biodiesel through a reaction with methanol. It's important to get the proportions right otherwise it'll have too much leftover methanol and eat the fuel pump's seals... If you saw episode 9 of Top Gear last year you'll see the effects of a blown pump.
