Like title states Washed car yesterday and had a two drained battery issues since. I am aware that probably some component (electrical) got wet somewhere but what could it be that it causes battery to drain/not start up the engine?:dunno:

For now I am gonna let "dry" out for couple of days and see what happens.

Yes, do the same thing with a VW and observe what will happend when you'll start the car.

im pretty sure you are all wrong and the alternator has nothing to do with it, more the fact that his distributor got wet and is now misfiring...

always cover the alternator and cap w/ wires.

I made a mistake once and removed the resonator from the air intake and totally fuched the MAF sensor with a pressure wash. Never again!

Well I don't need you guys to assume anything of me. But no I do not have a Jetta, I drive a saab 93. And I did not do an engine wash at all. hood was closed at all times. It must be moisture build up somewhere.

Hopefully this prob can dry out? I will let it go for day or two more and see what happens.

will keep you posted.

Please tell me that most of you guys are not serious.

So let me get this straight, you washed the car (outside) and then your battery got drained. Did you use a pressure washer?

Check if your battery is charged, if the battery is drained, then don't you think you should check for the fluid level, and test it to see if it's still in good status.
If you have access to a power outlet close to the car, get a hair drier, and blow some warm air in the wiring and see if it helps.

Multimeter with car off... should read between 11 and 12V ....
Start car, check again ... should be between 13 and 14.5 ... typically 13.8 ....

Also check for shorts ... if you have a multimeter that can do it, check for current draw on certain key electronics in the car. Stuff that could be shorted. It could be completly un related to washing the car, and just be a co incidence ... I still believe its your alternator.

I replaced my battery today which was OEM BTW, and according to other saabers they don't last past 3 yrs. Anyways starts like a charm and seems to drive smoother now too. I think it just may have been coincidence.

Thanks for the help guys ... MR ftw
