Boom headshot, yeah I hadnt read the article and that part is clearly BS. It's simple logic, if you want airflow, dont cover the thing to prevent air from hitting the disc.. And @ AHP_DC5 you seem to be part of a racing team, you should know this kind of things I think.

and the covers are probably to keep the heat IN, even if it dosen't say that in the article. I formula 1 they have covers to keep the heat in the brakes because carbon brakes don't brake until 600 degrees CELSIUS

The true answer must lie somewhere in the middle... that disc must be used to control the amount of cooling available for the brakes - not so much that the brakes become cold and useless, not too little so that the brakes become too hot and disintegrate.
Racecars are compromise vehicules, always.
