We all know what's going to happen here, so I'll comment before this goes to hell. I wouldn't say that Montreal is becoming more English. I would say that it's becoming more bilingual. The French are becoming more English and the English are becoming more French.

You wouldn't have seen conversations like the threads on MR a few decades ago, where the posts are half english, half french, and everyone understands each other.

It's a good thing, as far as I'm concerned

True.

You corner store working ching chongs cant even speak proper english 75% of the time I cant imagine how hard it would be for you to learn the province's official language.

That was funny , EdT got served.

French people are moving to the burbs and more immigrants are taking their place. The PQ needs something to create a buzz and regain popularity.

in 2010, Quebec and Montreal are at the top bottom of the list in economic growth around 2.3% and Toronto, Vancouver, hamilton are on top with more than 3.5%....I wonder why..

My first language is french but I proudly speak english first because I find the french that quebecer speak sounds too low class.

Thank God, maybe businesses with $$$ would come back to Montreal as an international metropolis to do commerce, instead of Jean-Guy LaFenetre that munch on poutine and guzzle down beer all day long !

Assuming were a bunch of retards much?

Errr okay? Do you have issues in life? Whats the point of being rude with people? English or French, why wouldnt you just respect people around you?

I used to work in a company not too long ago that was mostly composed with english people that were trying to speak french SOOOO hard. Sometimes they would just speak to me in english. That was fine with me. I was thinking maaan I HAVE to make an effort and speak english. Just to show some respect. And I did, it didnt sound always good but they would just take the time to let me express myself. We all learned a LOT from it.

meh. My thought process (in Montreal, a city I consider pretty much bilingual) is that if my french is better than your english, we'll speak french. If your english is better than my french, we'll speak english. (Je suis presque parfaitement bilingue, mais j’ai un accent).

95% of salespeople will try to speak to me in english, and at least 75% of people in social situations will do the same, since they recognize my accent. The end result is that most of the time we're both speaking our second languages (I'm speaking french and they're speaking english). We both are attempting to practice a second language, we're both trying to show the other person respect by speaking their language, we're both trying to accommodate the other person and we both understand the other person perfectly.

I love this city, et je ne peux pas m'imaginer ailleurs.

C'est ça savoir vivre *tu*
