Help here concerning iphone 4 unlocking

I won an iphone 4 at an apple event but its from virgin mobile but i am currently with rogers...

Do i need to get it unlocked?
How much does it cost?
Is there any other steps to do in order to work with rogers?

what might work is goto the apple store and tell them your situation and they will probably unlock it for you, cuzz from what the girl told me at the apple store at fairview they ALL come unlocked but lock it when U ACTIVATE the sim card! as my GF just got her Iphone 4! OOORR call virgin mobile and explain them the situation and they can def unlock it for ya...
 
i was wondering.. since apple is the one who locks it to the carrier... Would they be able to unlock my fido iphone ?? if its possible , anyone knows a friend/gf/bf that works in the apple store that could do it for a fee ??

i know how to unlock mine but would be nice to have it factory unlock...
 
If youre on 4.1 or 4.0.2 you're stuck with the phone carrier.

You can easily sell your phone and buy another on for the same price.

If youre on 4.0.1 you can jailbreak/unlock the phone easily.
 
actually it takes them all of 2 seconds to do it! I saw her LOCK my iphone to rogers carrier! just be all nice with the guy/girl and maybe they will do it, it doesnt hurt to try and U got nothing to lose

There's a reason why its called FACTORY unlocked.. Otherwise it would be called "store" unlocked dont ya think?

P.S never seen a site so intent on trying to prove how smart they are and disprove some one, instead of helping out! sheesh! doesn't hurt the OP to go see!
 
I have carefully documented the steps required to resolve your issue:

1) sell the iphone
2) buy a real phone

and what makes YOU such a f*cking pro dipshit? the girl at the apple store told me they Are ALL UNLOCKED FROM THE FACTORY if you read properly! all she did was program it onto the sim card with the computer (thats with the new micro sim card), which they can UNDO with the same computer. it is NOT like before where the phone was locked to the carrier from the factory! this was STRAIGHT FROM HER MOUTH! I think she would know more than YOU! jeezuss! so STFU and stick to what you know DJ'ing!

not so fast. It is roumered that 4.1 will be jailbroken in the coming days. If it is jailbroken, odds are it will be unlockable as well.

Chronic Dev Team hacker p0sixninja posted a link to an all-new entry on The iPhone Wiki titled “SHAtter”. The article, without revealing too much, details how the SHAtter exploit works (with loads of technical jargon like fuzzer, AES engine, heap overflow, memory dumps and the like), who discovered it and who is actively working on it.

From The iPhone Wiki:

This is an unsigned code execution vulnerability that resides in DFU mode of the S5L8930 bootrom.

Uses of this exploit have already involved uploading a pwned iBSS/iBEC to provide access to the AES engine and to run custom ramdisks.

GreenPois0n is closer than ever folks! I’ll once again end this post requesting all you iPhone 4 / iPod touch 4G jailbreak-users to be patient!

As soon as something is released it will be posted there. I would suggest that you wait at least a week or two before selling your phone.

PS: I'm waiting for it too....I have a 4.1 iphone which i cannot jailbreak, which in other words is useless to me! Hence i wait patiently.
 
The jailbreak is out with Snowbreeze, problem is unlock is not out yet... And it might not be because 4.2 is going to be out in November.

Sn0wbreeze will not work on iphone 4!

However it is to be noted that Sn0wbreeze 2.0 WILL NOT jailbreak iPhone 4, iPad and iPod touch 4G. The devices which it will support are:

iPhone 2G
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) – Must be already jailbroken. (If you are jailbroken using Spirit or JailbreakMe, use Spirit2Pwn from http://repo.woowiz.net)
iPhone 3GS (new bootrom) – Must be currently jailbroken on 3.1.2.
iPod Touch 1G
iPod Touch 2G (Non-MC Model)
iPod Touch 2G (MC Model) – Must be currently jailbroken on 3.1.2.
iPod Touch 3G – Must be currently jailbroken on 3.1.2.
