I HATE insurance companies !!!

id say you have a case there, they cant say to go ahead with repairs and then change their minds... its like a verbal contract, they should have warned you right away that they wont cover for the repairs, you could have shop around different garages to find a better price .

the garage doesnt really change anything... i had someone t-bone me and he ran off so my insurance had to cover me,when the guy came to take pictures of my car he clearly saw that it was modded. i went to the best garage around and the insurance payed it so i dont see why they wouldnt pay for yours ... i say its worth fighting bud ... also in October an 18 wheeler turned right into me totalled the car and im dealing with them right now i told them my car was modded and send them a list that i had on my car that came up to 11gs. i think there gonna have to cover it. the reason why cause they didnt ask me if it was modded when i called to insure it so u shouldnt have any probably to make them pay .. sry for the speach

it all depend on the insurance company. Estimator is there to EVALUATE the COST of repairs. Not to VERIFY if the car is MODIFIED or not, and not either to tell the insured if it's gonna be covered...

it SUCKS, FIGHT it! but i'm pretty sure this is the reason why they do not want to cover since they DO NOT INSURE cars MODIFIED IN ANY WAYS. :(

just to add info here...got my mk2 vr6 in the past and when the insurance ask is it modded (la personnelle) for the first time i say yes( no choice there was too much stuff)

....evaluation cost me 150$ but the difference between 1 side for a 500$ or a 8000$ car was 32$ for the year

i have a feeling you are not telling the whole story because they can't refuse a claim based on information that was not divulged.

The most they can do is pay in proportion to the rate they would have charged if you had declared your mods, example you might be paying 80% of the rate they would have otherwise charged, therefore they would pay out 80% of the 3 000$.

Your story does not add up.

Happy for you bud dont let them fuck you over they make millions a year so they have the cash to pay glad you got your check

Glad u got ur money from gay ass TD but change insurance companies ... look into axxa im paying 1100$ for 2 years fully loaded coverage and then never asked if i modded my car

i drive an old mk2 so i only insure one way lol..

i dont tell them theres a 1.8t under the hood.

if i smash it it come out my pocket but i dont drive a 25k plus new car soo yaaa

You do know that if you smash into something they can cancel your policy and you could be help responsible for the 2 mill you think you are currently insured for civil injuries/damage to infrastuctures?

A few years ago an MR member did the same and had to pay more than 100K for a highway lightpole... Makes you think no? It did for me.

i'll be paying 900$ per year

2011 jetta Trendline ( both sides )

I'll chime in as I work in the Insuance field ( :( )

I'm not quite sure how it works in Quebec, however in Ontario insurance guidelines are filed with FSCO. Some companies have a strict policy regarding modifications. If at the time the policy inception you did not disclose the amount of modifications, and if the company you are with has a limit on mods, for example $5000 and not more, then this would constitute a material change in risk.
As crappy as it is to say, the chances of you getting a payout are slim simply because the company was not aware that the risk had changed to something they likely would not have insured in the first place.

People really need to ask these questions when it comes to modified vehicles, as you are likely paying a policy premium for nothing after all is said and done. Why? If your vehicle is outside of the insurable guidelines, then you are wasting your time and should find another carrier.
