Advice: New car for girlfriend

As the title states, the gf is looking for a new car so I figured I could perhaps come here for some advice seeing as I haven't really kept up to date with new car reviews.

She's looking into purchasing a 2011. Fairly compact, few requirements (AC, electric windows and locks, automatic... not much else) So far we've looked into and gotten prices for Mazda 3 GX Auto with comfort package and a Volkswagen Jetta Comfortline 2.0L. after looking at the fuel efficiency/economy of the TDI that may be a possibility as well.

Also, this would be financing over 48 or 60 months. She test drove a Sentra but was not too impressed by the overall package. What else should be considered in this range and any opinions on the aforementioned models?

If she's buying, I'd stay far, far away from the Mazda3. And the new Jetta is hideous and cheap. I'd never get anything with a CVT with that small of an engine so the Sentra is out.

I'd get an Impreza because of the AWD, Corolla because of the resale value or new Fiesta if it's not to small.

T'as pensé à la Fiat 500? Parfait char de fille, avec le design de l'auto, ces couleurs, etc! Économique en plus, l'équivalent de la TDI en consommation, et moins cher à l'achat! L'équipement de base est bien aussi!

Thank you et merci bcp a tous pour vos opinions

I too had though of Hyundai as our next dealer visit, though i must admit kia was never in the picture. should we reconsider?

As for the Fiat 500, just looked into it and we both agree it would be too small for her needs... a little too compact!

what's wrong with the jetta that i mentionned? i find it underpowered for something of its size... but anything else ?

the jetta could be a nice car. it's just the 2L that makes me go back. i'd say wait for the new elantra

Wait for the new Elentra, or test drive the Kia Forte

We all know by now that Hyundai/KIA > mazda, toyota, honda, nissan, mitsubishi etc.

in term of overall quality/price

It's pretty simple:

If you Lease - Jetta or Impreza - by far the best lease deals because they keep a high residual.

If you want to buy/financing

Kia Forte - by far the best deal in terms of what you get for the money. On 60 months you can get an EX for 360$/month.

Hyundai's deals are pretty good as well but the Elantra is due to be changed in a few months so she might not like to have the "old model". The new one is very nice but will most probably be expensive when in comes out.

On financing the Jetta is a bad deal because it has really high interest rates so your actual payment is high even for the crappy 2.0 engine. And that engine is really not well suited for the car. For example, a 2.0 Comfortline on 60 months is 455.

Other decent financing deals are the Jeep Patriot & Suzuki SX4 if she wants AWD. Sentra and Versa also. Maybe Lancer.

Go try the Kia forte like everybody else said, they have good financing and the car looks solid.

Else, you can go try the Cruze, i tried it and it's really way up there in initial and ride quality.

I personally would stay away from Kia and Hyundai. I've had bad experiences and know a lot of people who have had bad experiences. Cheap cars in my opinion.

You haven't really given prices.

Nissan Versa
Mazda 2
Mazda 3
Mitsubishi Lancer
Subaru Impreza
WV Golf
WV Jetta

I would look at those cars. I've listed some small compacts and some Family sedans
