Is it news that Alfa Romeo will be here by end of 2011?

They should ship their marketing team here too, their ads are works of art just like their cars.

For those that understand italian:

Alfa Romeo returning to North America really depends how well the Fiat-Chrysler venture plays out and how the Fiat 500 does. They just approved a 1.3billion dollar loan to build a new Alfa-Jeep SUV in Italy based on the C-Platform.

Well see how all of this works out. The Giulietta is doing well in Europe.

That's too bad, because I really have a feeling the Fiat 500 isn't going to suceed very well.

The Buzz around the 500 is high, it really depends how they market and service the car. Remember when the Beetle came out?

So far so good, 4-yr warranty with a 3-yr maintenance program.

The beetle came out twelve years ago.

The buzz was also high when the Fiesta was announced, and sales are weak.

I hope for Fiat and Alfa's sake it works out, but I'm a little pessimistic about this one...

The Versa's are ugly as hell, but they still sell like hotcakes. The recipe is simple for North America, big and cheap. Small and cheap doesn't work as well. Sad but true.

Generally true.....the Mini is an example of how an expensive and overpriced small car was still a decent success story though.

The fiesta is not glamour, very small (2+2 seats imo) and expensive. The 500 at least is cute and glamour.

It's all the fat americans screwing shit up, if they went on a diet and were able to fit in lets say, something smaller than an F-150, there'd probably be more demand for smaller cars.

depends on what they aim for

Cars like the Versa want to sell in big volumes. The 500, like the Mini have a different tactic and maybe it won't be as successful as the mini but still it could have decent success.

Dubweiser is right though, big and cheap is what sells the most, that's why the Versa is such a huge sellerm and as long as mid size cars can be had for under 20K....not many will want to pay 20K for a 500 (which is what the Lounge costs in the US I think). The 500 will really split the market with the Smart and the Mini, I doubt it will steal many sales from the other subcompacts.

Actually the demand for bigger cars is not because we have bigger asses.

We generally live in bigger houses, have more stuff, and driver longer distances than Europeans, naturally we need bigger cars. Even if America slimmed down, we would still need bigger cars.

Good point, hence the new Jetta and Passat being cheaper and larger. Americans don't like or need small cars. I can see why and the distances they travel are far superior than most Europeans.
