Faster speeds mean safer highways?

The problem with raising the speed limit is ... what do you with the large trucks we North Americans have to do battle with on a daily basis? Set two different limits? That would be disastrous. Allow trucks to travel at the new increased speeds? Equally dangerous. So then what?

:run:

More than that, the firm recommends a system of demerit points and fines for driving at slower speeds, along with mandatory advanced driver training.

I'd vote for that! *tu*

We need MUCH stricter drivers license tests with emphasis on the right areas (road rules/respect). Left lane is for passing only, tickers are a must... it's not very hard you just stick out your index.... try and maintain a constant speed, etc etc.
yes knowing how to park properly is important, but should it really be the emphasis of the test? I think not...

I did a thread with that subject and almost got bashed cause people mostly think they Canadian/Quebecer won't evolve ever.

Driving on European highways is a dream to any car enthusiast. Driving at 150-160kmh is a real treat when you have the right car and alot of European cars struggle to reach 150kmh because of their smaller engines, which is why they stay in the slow lane!

City driving however, is a completely different story~!

It works in Europe because people know how to drive.
i.e. using the left lane for passing ONLY. Here in Quebec and especially Ontario drivers like to camp in the fast lane.

High speed highways just wouldnt work here unfortunately.
this

I flash my high beams to move them out the lane
works sometimes, but not always. Thursday at 7.30 pm I was on Decarie and this black guy in a white Neon was doing 71 on the left lane. I arrive behind him ,wait for 30-40 secs, flashed at him . Guess what ! He decides to slow to 60. I flash again at him and he slows to 55. I put my high beams on, and now I know he's hating me and he goes at 48 km/ h . On Decarie, at 48 km/h ...and on the left lane!
People are too ignorant man. I flash someone who's sitting in the fast lane and they brake! Move the F******** over !
insane

Yeah...it's fucking ridiculous. I've flashed people too and they get offended and start acting stupid by slowing down and blocking or even getting behind me and flashing me. I always think to myself if it's serious...people are fucking stupid, JUST MOVE OVER!

I think here in QC speed limits should be weather based -

Summer time, nice warm day - 130kmh on highways, Rainy day 120. Say may 15th to dec 1st

Dec 1st to May 15th have the normal highway speed limits changed to 100-110 but allow a 10-15 passing limit during safe conditions.

Our highways are definitely safe enough to be driving 130 np, people just need to stop hogging the fucking left lane - It's for PASSING ONLY! They teach this shit at drivers school how do you forget it!?

Speed limits at 130 would be perfect, if people drive within their limits...
It cracks me up to see the look on people's faces when I wave at them as I pass on the right, they really don't seem to understand. I hate it when people give excuses like having to turn left (in like 2 kms...) or that the lane is smoother.
One time, I stayed behind a guy flashing him for 2mins, when I got impatient I passed on the right. He followed me about a foot from my bumper flashing and honking for about 5 kms and followed me right to my house. I was so mad I went up to the van only to see it was a 50 yr old with 3 kids in the car. I think he was trying to make an example of me... but I was so pissed I could have wrung his neck. We yelled at each other for a few minutes when he lost it and tried to get out of his van, I kicked the door closed on him and told him if he didn't want to get beat bad in front of his kids that he better stay in his truck. That's when my brother came out of the house with a bat... the old guy took off! WOW that old guy came close to getting it, I think that if he didn't have kids with him, I would have yanked him out of his truck as soon as he pulled up to my house. Some people need to admit when they're wrong.

Someone PLEASE PLEASE SPAM this study to the ministry of transport. Let's get this shit all over the news

more important than lambo dude

LOL Wow that dude is fucking sick in the head, the look on his face when he realized he's getting beat to death infront of his kids woulda been priceless if it woulda happened.

Seriously some old dudes still think they're macho 25 year olds... It's so sad that reality hasn't hit them yet =/

The safest I have ever felt driving on a highway was on the autobahn...

x2.

Middle lane, 210km/h... Middle because many cars were passing me. However, after passing me they'd move back to the middle lane and keep the left lane empty. <3 Europe.
