Alfa Romeo 164 PRO-CAR story

A one-off beast with a 10-cyl F1 engine centrally mounted. What a shame this series never took off. I can only imagine the noise in the car. It now sits in a museum.

The engine was placed in the center of the car and bolted together with a 6 speed transmission (plus reverse gear). The digital ingnition/fuel injection system was built by Bosch. The engine produces over 600 BHP and with 750 kg (1655 lbs) curb weight it reaches a top speed of 350 kph (217 mph) and does the 0 - 100 kph in around 2 seconds

That reminded me when I was working in Italy. The team developed a racing car with the body of an Alfa Romeo 156 on it. It was basically a formula car with the car carbon body on it.

If I remember correctly it was a prototype for a new racing series, with all the same under the car, but you could change the carbon body for another constructor.

Love the 164, one of the best sedans of that era. Many of my friends had the 164 S model and enjoyed driving them much. Great engine!
