Where to rent Tow Dolly (Besides Uhaul)

fastwheel, don't post if you don't know what you're talking about.

The green goblins are always something to worry about, no matter what you drive, or tow, or where you go. I've been stopped by them 3 times, had trucks impounded, trailers towed.. its not fun, and not cheap.

Its true, the car has to be registered and insured to be towed with a dolley. The fact that it will be in parts would DEFINATELY get you pulled over if they see you, and will get impounded without question.
U-haul also has the flatbed trailers, Its probably a good time to start asking your friends if they want to go on a road trip with their truck..

and as for the safety ratings.. Legally, you would be over the limit. But structurally for the vehicle, it would be able to take it. My truck is a half ton, but I tow 7000 pounds with it sometimes without a problem. The fact you'd be on the highway, it would do just fine. Its the stopping and going that would hurt the car/tranny.

^ this is the right answer to all your problems.

Get an actual trailer. but then you might go too much over the limit with that... 2800lbs on a 2400 max is fine, but you'll get pulled over fast with a frame on a dolly!

Its the fact that the towing rating is factored in by how the hitch assembly is attached to the car, brakes and suspension, etc. Obviously, on a car that doesn't have a frame, would not be the best option.

Then again, last week we had someone come in with a kia, towing a trailer and their 94 chevy 1500 HD....

Can you tow a off-road plated vehicule ( a off-road plated suzuki samurai for exemple ) on a tow-dolly? because the truck is somehow "registered".

No , still not legal ....you need real road plates to pull anything on public roads with the wheels touching the ground.

As long as anything of the vehicle is touching the ground, it needs to be fully registered and insured, its the same concept of driving the car on the road because of the fact it could break loose and hurt/kill someone, and insurance wouldn't cover the who knows how much that incident could cost.

My truck is a half ton, but I tow 7000 pounds with it sometimes without a problem.

"half ton" expression for a truck is tha payload capacity(what can be put in the bed) not the towing capacity.

I would never tow on a long distance at such the capacity limit(and even more)....even less with a turbo manual car...ever heard of clutch slipage?
never to less...it's totally illegal to tow a non plated car on a dolly as mentionned earlier by other.

It's looking like you'll need a truck and trailer.

Hey guys it's an old topic and didn't notice it was still going on.

I borrowed a Jeep liberty and rented a full size car hauler from Uhaul and I picked it up last weekend. It cost $240 worth of gas lol I wasn't expecting that but it's all done :) The gas money cost me more then the frame did.

Thanks for your advice, I opted not to use my car and not to rent a 2 wheel dolly because I didn't want any trouble.

good decision...nest times load the car centered on the trailer wheel. it will be way easier to tow and won'T arm the jeep suspension much.

Well I followed the instructions that were given to me. It clearly says engine forward and the wheels all the way to the end of the trailer where the wheel straps are located. I couldn't really do anything else as the front sheel straps are stuck to the trailer in the front you can't remove them and change their position
