Shipping from California

Any way I can be told how much I would be taxed? My ideal scenario would be me being 100% honest with my item to make sure it gets here and if not, well..I want to be covered for my loss.

What would it be? federal + provincial tax on the retail value of the item?

I want to be able to estimate the cost of the shipping + customs fee to know if this is actually worth the trouble or not.

both taxes plus brokerage. fees are on page 46 of this pdf

http://images.fedex.com/ca_english/services/pdf/Ground_Rates2011_EN.pdf

in my 5 years of shipping stuff, all internet stuff, (at least 85% from the states) and even before that when I used to use my parents credit card when I was subscribed to comics. I would easily estimate "mailed purchases" mixed from all shipping providers at over 150 stuff and not a single one has ever gotten lost.

I've even sent a PS3 at the time when they were worth 1500$, insured, with Playstation 3 and the value clearly written on the box and they havent "magically" dissapeared.

no need to get stressed imho and pay 100$ in taxes and brokerage + whatever the insruance is gonna be to cover the value of the processor.

Just send it as a gift, write what it is, get a tracking number, write 20$. thats it.

srs.

edit: and like i said and some other people told you, dont ship the fan. The processor freakin small. Just put it between some cardboard in its original packaging, in an envelopped with interior bubble wrapping and thats it.

noones gonna try to steal a 20$ package thats in such a tiny-thin packaging

Just write "old P3 processor" with a $30 declared value... you really think they can tell the difference? It'll be wrapped in bubble paper.

1) fedex.
2) gift
3) 30$ value.
4) dont take the stock fan. just the cpu. You can toss it into a nicely bubble wrapped enveloppe and it'll be cheapper to buy a new aftermarket fan here than to ship the stock one.
5) profit.

this times 8 ! i just did the exact same thing

so if it's a gift from my uncle to me, I don't pay taxes? Why do I have to lie about the value? If it's a gift...it can'T be more than 30%

ship it to "ship it shop" or free port shipping, drive down, pick it up, pay duties, problem solved.

i jsut shipped from cali tires and rims with a value of "500" via ups

The shipping that they charged me was 150$ (so im assuming yours should be much less like 20$)

and taxes and duties on 500$ was exactly 85$ (so taxes on 185$ would be somewhere around the 30$ line)

thus your looking at a value of 50$ +/- for shipping, duties and taxes

ship to freeport, it will cost like 10$ shipping.

then go get it yourself and pay for taxes at the border. cheapest and fastest option.
