any tips on how to teach manual?

Pussy ... Drop at redline. :D

Honestly, I found the magic trick to show someone...

You know when your in the traffic, when you go forward a bit just by releasing the clutch slowly?

Well if you release your clutch slowly and wait until the car goes to like 5km, you can release everything and the car will never shutdown...

It will stay at a minimum speed until you brake.

Well I start by showing that whole concept.

Learn how to take off WITHOUT ever pressing the gas...Release clutch slowly, when you feel the car moving, leave the clutch

where it is until you get to a minimum speed, and then you can release the clutch...Then you press the gas whenever you want...

Of course it's quite slow that way but after that the person will learn to add the gas at the same time, wich is the biggest difficulty...

what i did was, i chipped with my friends for a shitty volkswagen 300$ manuel , with working RPM but had no interior lights , no dash lights haha , it was also ultra hard to drive cause the clutch was probably finished almost =P

Tell her the car WILL move forward without any gas if you let go the clutch very slowly, this turned out to be the magic trick with a few of my friends

din ding ding we have winners!!

The whole concept of opposite actions (clutch/gas) often described with a stupid hand gesture that fucks up the "motor brain" in giving as much gas pedal travel as the clutch is a infamy!!! It creates frustrations and destroys clutches...

Start with no gas pedal at all, on flat surface or slight decline. Practice practice. When the feet get's on the gas for the first time, the car should already be moving forward, compare it to "stepping on eggs". The engine should not even rev, if it is, your slipping/burning clutch.

Then practice the same clutch to forward but with the right feet on the brake, holding the car in place while it starts to vibrate (friction). Then move to an incline...

Changing gear part should not be to hard to teach. Haven't had anyone confused about that part.

If the car is jerking, it's becasue the foot is bouncing on the gas pedal, taKE FOOT OFF GAS! NOT CLUTCH...

There we go...

drove to big parking lot, got out and told her drive home and let her do her thing. : (
then i get a call she cannot drive back home.

if you have a buddy that has a truck with a stick that would be a great way. the slowly getting off the clutch thing will work wonders when you have lots of torque

Step 1: plan a trip to Miami
Step 2: drive to Miami
Step 3: when in Miami take the plane immediately.

Possible outcomes:
-wife is back driving manual better than you do
-civic has gone up in the value about 3x as it has become a unique collectible item that survived thousands of km with a woman that doesnot / did not drive manual.

Or
-no wife
-no car

So its either win win or fail fail really
