Under really bad conditions, trucks, pick up and such are usually going too fast imo, they feel safer and more stable but they're not.

This is what i was referring to in case you missed it:

I just drifted my Smart on a so called main street.

Those cars are so small, so light, so short with tires the size of a 50cc scooter... Under conditions that aren't 20C sunny summer day, you have to be extra careful.

And what's your car? Under really bad conditions, trucks, pick up and such are usually going too fast imo, they feel safer and more stable but they're not. Last summer a full size truck drifted right in front of me under heavy rain, on le pont de l'île aux tourtes.

I saw two accidents on the 15N tonight, one was a GMC with a trailer, the other was a Pick-up in the ditch.

What amazes me, is that people see accidents, yet still speed by in their shitty Jetta/Hyundai/Civics. Natural selection I guess??

The Smart is supposed to do quite well in the snow, if I refere to the reviews and specs (all the electronic crap, narrow tires, engine at the right place).

I was going 35-40 with winters on lacordaire when all of a sudden all my traction disappeared pumped the brakes but the car still had a hard time to stop as it swerved and slowly bumped the sidewalk, no damage and thank god nobody behind me. Trust me after that i was going closer to 25. I've been driving for over 10 years and today was probably the worst ive seen the roads and in 20mins of driving i witnessed 4 accidents all at corners from people unable to stop. Just like the OP a lot people get over confident with the drizzle not realizing that montreal road's became a skating rink with big holes.

That's Montreal's new plan for public safety, have enough potholes to stop the cars even without braking.

i looled on this thread . cuz its better to drive 20km/h then pay double insurance later !!!

If you're most of MR, chances are your tires are nearing bald (aka good for one more winter) and you'll total your car flipping out, going through walls and taking out trees at 20km/h.

So insurances will go up either way :)

Last winter, I hated my tires (came complimentary when I bought the car). They were the Michelin X-Ice2. I'm assuming the dealer didn't account for the load of the car, as my Civic is pretty light.

Anyways, lastnight I loved them. My wife and I both have Civics, but I had such an easier time on our street which wasn't salted at all. Saw 2 accidents in ten minutes on my street alone when I went to get get my wifes car that got stuck on a small section with a slight incline. Her tires are much better on the snow, but on the slick ice in the rain, it wasn't that good.

lol reminds me of something I saw last year.

I was driving in the middle lane of the 440 and there was some light snow on the floor. Just enough to drive carefully yet tons some people were driving like they were the sh*t.

Saw a young dude in a tercel drive faster than us and I told my brother: "this dude is gonna lose it."

like 2 minutes later, I see the same dude on the side of the road lol. He couldve definitely cause an accident if others were driving as fast.
