I agree with this post, but there isn't much British going on anymore; at least they're made in Germany for the most part. Do like a good ole Range Rover and an Aston though.

First place, British

Second, German

Third, American

Not a big fan of Japanese cars.

Land Rovers are very reliable trucks, you are referring to Range Rover Classic and Sport for the last 8-10 years because they used BMW engines and electronics AND the brand changed too many owners.
Other than that as of 2010 Range Rovers started using Jag's all new aluminum block engines and the reliability has gotten much better.

From personal experience, BMW (suv) are much less reliable that Range Rovers.
Also keep in mind that Land Rover offers V8 Diesel engines in Europe that are one of the best diesel engines ever built.

People complain much about the fuel consumption, but they should know what they are getting themselves into when buying an VERY heavy vehicle built with hard and heavy materials to survive in extremes off roading situations and in extreme climates.
A Range Roger is like a modernized tank made to look nice in the city and put to shame many competitors while off roading.

Brits make one of the finest and most expensive vehicles on this planet and people buy them because they are happy with the over all product.

I didn't know this and it is good to know. Range Rover is my fav SUV.

I've owned mostly Japanese and have been very happy

Honda
Mitsubishi
Nissan

I do like Euro though so may make a move to Audi one day, I like the wife's BMW.

I took over my mom's Chevy Beretta when I was 16, that's been the only domestic I've driven and it was good at the time. loved that thing lol

Each one have their pros and cons. To say Germans make the best cars is nonsense, both the Japanese and Americans have proven they can challenge the Germans at their own game. It all comes down to what you perceive is best for you, on MR it looks like many only care about the badge.

For V8 power, as much as I love the M3 for value I would get a Boss 302.
The best looking SUV is British (on and off road), would never buy a SUV.
The Nissan GT-R remains king.
The Miata remains the best handling affordable sports car (would not buy one).
The Corvette is great, interior looks like shit.

Where I will agree is the 911 is the BEST all around sportscar. So for me, 911 Carrera 4S hands down over everything else.

lol BMW doesn't make the best german V8 anyway.

Is there an American or Japanese car brand that makes stiffer bodies than German brands? Honestly, even though the Jetta is not a performance car contender, my old MKIV (Wolfsburg edition with the OEM Eibach suspension) was much stiffer than when I drove a stock STi. Of course, the STi is a better car overall (obviously), but there's too much flex going on.

Let me guess, MB does?

I don't know, I never found any articles that compare Audi, BMW and MB V8.

But I prefer the 6.2L AMG V8 in any case, either torque, power or sound.

and I preach for my brand so no shit I prefer the AMG V8, but I even prefer the Audi 4.2 V8 over the BMW's.

I guess you like low end grunt, yes you have to work the M3 harder vs. the AMG. As for Audi, in the S5 it doesn't come close to the M3 and AMG. My philosohpy is to look at the overall performance of the package and not limited to the engine. The M3 and possibly new C63 AMG top the class, the A5 with the V8 doesn't make it. Great looking car, but it doesn't handle like the M3 as a package.

If you make comparisons strictly based on price and reliability, I'm pretty sure Japanese cars will win at almost every level.

If you don't look at the price or the reliability in your equations, then German cars might have the advantage in many aspects. Overall comfort and luxury is above anything the others can offer, but obviously that comes with a price. Which can also be said about performance.

I'm surprised at how the Americans are doing since the industry collapse a few years ago. I think they're focusing in the right direction and they might straighten out and start making vehicles that would be considerable opponents to the other two, actually I believe they already have. Reliability-wise, I think of them at an equal level with the German cars. At the price level, they're clashing with the Japanese, but there's still too much missing to make them better on an overall level.

So for now, Japanese gets my vote.

jap: well engineered, good design, decent swag.

german: poorly engineered, lot of swag, good assemblage of interior, beautiful design.

american: cheap design, cheaply made for cheaper people.

this is my general perception.
but then again, i dont judge car or have preference by its "ethnicity" or brand.
every car is judged individually.

I like them all, they all have their good / bad points. Some make better Pickups / SUVS / econoboxs / luxury cars, all depends what category your aiming at!

and all three get killed by the $30 000 Mustang 5.0 lol

How can you say when you get good and bad from the same country

Gemany:
BMW - Good
VW - Shit

Japan:
Honda - Good
Mazda - Shit

On topic of V8 engines I think the AMG V8 that goes into the c63 AMG is the best V8 engine in the world.

that I give it to you, for handling and sport features, the M3 is the top of them.
and yes, I prefer low end grunt ahah.

I was more talking about engine for engine.

-Americans make the best large pick-ups by far
-Italians make the best small cars and high-end sports car
-Germans make the best cars between 50-150k$
-Japanese make the best reliable transportation in the mid-segments, 15-45k$

These are generalizations, but the tide is changing. Americans are becoming a global force and are designing much more interesting cars than the Japanese are, while the Koreans are seriously giving the Japanese a beating.

The Germans are traditionally well built and have cornered the luxury segment, while exploring other areas.

This leaves the Italians and British brands in the ultra high-end segments.

J'ai un fort penchant pour les produits japonais. J'apprécie aussi beaucoup de modeles Euro, et de loin, mais de loin j'irai m'acheter du domestique.
